Allergic to guinea pigs?
If you find yourself sneezing, scratching your eyes, scratching your skin, and blowing your nose when handling your pet, congratulations - you may be allergic to guinea pigs. If “guinea pig hair” is the first thing that comes to mind, you can throw this thing into space, as allergens are transmitted via guinea pig saliva, urine, and secretions from the skin glands. Hair can only transmit these small allergens if it is in close contact with the animal. Most frequentlyThe reported allergic reactions to guinea pigs manifest as follows:
- Rhinitis: Ihre Nase wird ständig stickig und flüssig.
- Bindehautentzündung: Infektion der Augen (grob gesagt)
- Asthma: Verursacht Atembeschwerden.
- Ekzem: Juckender und schuppiger Hautausschlag.
If you suspect that you are actually allergic, you should first see your doctor and allergist and get tested specifically for guinea pig allergies.
If the test comes back positive, you know it's you allergic to guinea pigs. You need to do immunotherapy.
However, if the test comes back negative for guinea pig allergies, you need to look deeper for the cause of the symptoms. This may includeHay or the bedding materials(aspen, pine). Try testing this theoryAvoid these materials completely for 1 weekand see what happens. During this time, use fleece, towels, paper and shredded paper as bedding. Use patience because your guinea pigs will hate your courage if you don't give them their beloved hay for a week. You will also need to wash the cage, accessories, and guinea pigs to remove any potentially irritating debris. If symptoms subside after a week, you're closer to finding your culprit.
To relieve allergy symptoms, do not keep the guinea pig cage in your bedroom. You will have difficulty breathing and sleeping normally if your nose is stuffy due to the allergens. Try to isolate your bedroom from other rooms, ventilate it with fresh air and/or use some air filters and air purifiers. When holding your pet, use some towels instead of holding them on clothing and body. However, if you stick it to your clothes, those clothes have to go. For washing. Also wash your hands all the time and do it thoroughly. Do not allow your pet near the head and neck, as these have the thinnest skin and are therefore the most sensitive. Keep the hay and bedding far away from your bedroom, living room, and any other “usual” rooms.
