So many people have become accustomed to living in a “blah” state of mind. Inspired by nothing, barely interested in the most important people in her life. Can you imagine what it would be like to feel truly inspired again? To believe that your most sincere desires and dreams are possible? People who live in a chronic state of mild depression or gnawing anxiety have most likely given up on the pursuit of a meaningful life. Regardless of what they want to give to the world, regardless of how God wants to use them to make this world brighter...they are caught in a web of mediocrity, compromise, stagnation,...

Does this sound familiar? While good diagnoses and treatments for anxiety and depression such as counseling and medication are very important... I'm wondering if you have considered some of the more physical causes of these conditions. It is very important to be checked for anemia, thyroid disease and other neurological diseases that can cause depressive symptoms. But did you know that certain microbes, bacteria and fungi that live in our gut can also cause these symptoms?

Our gut is filled with millions of organisms, some that help us feel good and thrive, and others that can make us sick, anxious, angry, depressed, or mentally fuzzy. Some of these bacteria and fungi cause chronic inflammation, which can cause not only psychological symptoms but also body pain and digestive difficulties that doctors have difficulty explaining. Did you know that some doctors can do tests to find out what microbes live in your gut? Are there treatments to get rid of the bad ones and increase the number of beneficial gut bacteria? These treatments have been successful not only for depression and anxiety, but also for psychological impairments caused by Alzheimer's, autism, ADHD, and more.

You owe it to yourself to find a functional medicine or naturopathic doctor to dig deeper and find possible causes of discomfort, fatigue, depression or anxiety. Doctors can order tests for organic acids in specialized laboratories, which will show the doctor your nutritional status. Are you at adequate levels for all the vitamins and cofactors your body needs for the thousands of chemical reactions taking place at any given time? There are markers for yeast or pathological bacterial overgrowth. There are markers that show whether you have been heavily exposed to certain metal and environmental toxins, and markers that show how well your body can detoxify itself. There are markers of neurotransmitters and neurotransmitter metabolism that will inform the doctor about the causes and best treatments for your specific condition.

My advice to you would be to trust your body, trust that God will never let you down, and find a doctor who can help you figure out what exactly is causing your current symptoms. God wants more for you – He wants you to be free to express your most joyful self. He has a plan for your life, and it is more wonderful than you can imagine.
