What do you really know about an eating disorder?
I am sure in life you would have heard of terms like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and out of control purging and binging. All of these medical terms are grouped into one category which is eating disorder.
Then what is eating disorder? Basically, an eating disorder is an eating habit that is abnormal due to insufficient or excessive food intake per day before the normal eating habit.
A person with an eating disorder is usually engaged in a struggle with overeating or unreasonable diets. They are also dissatisfied with their weight, body size and shape. This would actually affect self-esteem.
Additionally, there are some people who suffer from eating disorders and would eat non-stop and gain weight as a result.
Happiness, success and self-worth
Since the 1960s, the average woman's weight has increased slightly. In this case, the standard of a “perfect” body differs from there. As time passes by the standard of women to fit the bill, it is those who are thin and this is a trend to this day and because being thin is difficult, this would allow fewer people to be in that “perfect” category.
There is a misconception that there will be people who believe that the ability to fall into the category of having happiness, success and self-esteem belongs to the “perfect” category that I am asking you to distinguish. There may not be many people who fall into this category that everyone wants to be in, but are still happy with who they are. This is very controversial because I admit that if you are in the “perfect” category, the way people look at you would be different because it is not easy to be in that group. Every day around us there are many people who want to lose weight or go on a diet just to fit the bill.
In the eyes of the majority, being thin would be tantamount to being pretty, or being slightly overweight or fat is a failure.
But that is wrong. There are no rules and regulations that say you have to be skinny to be happy or even successful.
Causes and costs of eating disorders
There are a few reasons why people suffer from eating disorders.
First of all, it is due to social pressure or peer pressure. Next, there are some other factors such as fashion and slimming industry. Another important factor would of course be the media.
Eating disorders can lead to stress, anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses. This would lead to health problems such as kidney failure, heart disease and other life-threatening diseases.
Learn to look on the bright side of life
To overcome the disorder we should have a positive attitude. We could talk to our parents or friends about it or ask for help. There are many people out there who want and want to help people with eating disorders overcome them. Don't be afraid to go to the doctor. We should all learn to face and overcome it instead of avoiding the problem that won't go away just because you ignore it.
