Nutritional tips for acid reflux

The body does not react the same way to all foods.

Some foods are easy to digest, while others can cause real problems.

If you regularly experience heartburn or acid indigestion, you may be suffering from acid reflux and should see your doctor.

Acid reflux is uncomfortable when it occurs, but can also cause much more serious health problems if left undiagnosed and untreated.

You have probably already identified foods that are causing you a digestive problem.

These can include foods that are high in acid, such as oranges or orange juice, or foods that are high in fat, such as red meat or milk.

Coffee, tea, and spices like onions and garlic can also have devastating effects on the digestive system.

If you suffer from frequent digestive problems, it is a very good idea to keep a food diary for at least a week (longer if possible) and list all the foods you consumed before the indigestion occurred.

This information will help your doctor diagnose your digestive problem more quickly.

It's also information you can use to avoid the foods that are causing you problems.

The foods that cause indigestion and that terrible burning sensation are not the same for everyone.

Foods that don't bother one person with acid reflux at all may be a trigger for an acid reflux episode in another.

Doctors and nutritionists to whom the doctor might refer you are familiar with the problem of acid reflux and are knowledgeable about the foods that are most often the culprits.

But you will probably still be asked to keep a food diary for a period of time so that the foods that are causing your specific problem can be eliminated from your diet.

As a Crohn's disease sufferer, I sometimes suffer from acid reflux myself and although the treatments and diets I try to follow may differ from others, keeping a food diary has really helped me eliminate certain foods from my diet that were causing my acid reflux.

Ironically, many foods I've read about online that cause acid reflux in others don't cause it in me.

I love dairy products, spicy foods and fatty foods and I also drink coffee and tea.

However, I don't eat all of these foods and drinks all the time.

I know I need certain foods in my diet to help my body live a natural and healthy life.

Therefore, I tend to eat these types of foods in moderation and not constantly bombard my system with them.

Like everything in life, small things in moderation make you a happy person!
