New Federal Institute for Public Health: A milestone for Germany!
On February 13, 2025, the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) announced that the course had been taken for the establishment of the Federal Institute for Public Health (BIÖG). Dr. Carola Reimann, board member of the AOK Federal Association, commented on this important step and emphasized the importance of the cooperation between BIÖG and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). This cooperation is seen as significant progress for the future of health promotion in Germany.
In her statement, Reimann emphasized the need for health-promoting policies in all areas of society. She pointed out that Germany has deficits in creating health-promoting living conditions compared to other countries. However, there are still questions about the exact process of setting up the BIÖG AOK reported.
Data protection in focus
In parallel to the developments surrounding the BIÖG, the institute's data protection strategy was also discussed BZGA communicates. BIÖG will use the web analysis software Matomo to record key figures to improve its offering. Data such as IP address, device type and URLs accessed are recorded anonymously. The IP address is immediately anonymized, with the last two octets omitted.
In addition, it is emphasized that no cookies are stored on the users' devices. For users who do not wish to give consent to data processing, an opt-out cookie is set to prevent data collection. The anonymized data is stored for a period of 90 days and then deleted.
