According to the latest findings, in 2022, almost a third of adults worldwide did not achieve the recommended level of physical activity. This corresponds to around 1.8 billion people who do not exercise enough. In recent years in particular, the proportion of physically inactive people has increased by around 5 percentage points, indicating a worrying trend.

Experts such as WHO prevention expert Rüdiger Krech warn of the serious consequences of a lack of exercise. Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity are increasing worldwide due to a lack of physical activity. It is therefore crucial that measures are taken to encourage the population to adopt a more active lifestyle.

WHO calls on governments, communities and individuals to work together to raise awareness about the importance of regular exercise.
