What is Fluocinonide-E?

Fluocinonide-E (for skin) is used to treat inflammation and itching caused by plaque psoriasis or skin conditions that respond to steroid medications.

Side effects of fluocinonide-E

Fluocinonide-E can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • Redness, warmth, swelling, oozing or severe irritation of the treated skin;

  • Possible signs of fluocinonide-E absorption through the skin - weight gain (especially in the face or upper back and trunk), slow wound healing, thinning or discolored skin, increased body hair, muscle weakness, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, mood changes, menstrual changes, sexual changes.

Steroid medications can affect children's growth. Tell your doctor if your child does not grow normally while using this medicine.

Common side effects of fluocinonide-E may include:

  • burning, stinging, itching or dryness of the treated skin;

  • redness or crusting around your hair follicles;

  • stretch marks;

  • spider veins;

  • Acne;

  • lightened color of the treated skin;

  • Headache; or

  • stuffy nose, sore throat.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Fluocinonide-E if you are allergic to it.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • any type of skin infection;

  • a skin reaction to steroid medications;

  • liver disease; or

  • a disorder of the adrenal gland.

Steroid medications can increase the levels of glucose (sugar) in your blood or urine. Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.

It is not known whether fluocinonide-E will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Breastfeeding may not be safe while using this medication. Ask your doctor about any risks. When applying fluocinonide to the breast, avoid areas that could come into contact with the baby's mouth.

Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.Some brands or forms of this medication are not approved for use by people under 12 years of age.

Children may absorb larger amounts of this medicine through their skin and may be at higher risk of side effects.

How should I use Fluocinonide-E?

Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

Do not take orally. Topical medicines should only be used on the skin. Do not use on open wounds or on sunburned, windburned, dry or irritated skin.If this medicine gets into your eyes or mouth, rinse with water.

Wash your hands before and after using fluocinonide unless you are using this medicine to treat the skin on your hands.

Apply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected skin and rub gently. Do not apply this medicine to a large area of ​​skin unless directed by your doctor.

Do not cover the treated area of ​​skin with a bandage or other covering unless your doctor tells you to do so. Covering the treated areas may increase the absorption of the medication through the skin and may cause harmful effects.

When treating the diaper area, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers.

When treating your scalp, part the hair and apply the medicine directly to the scalp by massaging gently. Avoid washing or rubbing the treated scalp area immediately. Wait for the medicine to dry completely.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsen after two weeks of treatment.

If you need surgery, tell your surgeon that you are currently using this medicine.

You should not suddenly stop using fluocinonide. Follow your doctor's instructions for reducing the dose.

Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Do not freeze.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Use the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not apply two doses at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 if someone accidentally swallows the medication.

High doses or long-term use of fluocinonide-E may cause thinning of the skin, easy bruising, changes in body fat (especially in the face, neck, back and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual cramps, impotence, etc. Loss of interest in sex.

What should I avoid when using fluocinonide topically?

Do not let Fluocinonide-E get into your eyes.In case of contact, rinse with water.

Avoid applying this medicine to the face, scalp, armpits, or groin area.

Do not use Fluocinonide-E to treat any skin condition that has not been checked by your doctor.

Avoid using other topical steroid medications on the areas you are treating with fluocinonide unless directed to do so by your doctor.

What other drugs affect fluocinonide-E?
