Miebo

What is Miebo?

Miebo works to treat dry eye by preventing excessive tear evaporation.

Miebo contains perfluorohexyloctane, a semi-fluorinated alkane that stabilizes the tear film on the surface of the eye, prevents tears from evaporating and prevents the eyes from drying out.

It is not known whether this medicine is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age.

What is Miebo used for?

Miebo is used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).

Dry eye disease occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears to stay moist or when the tears do not function properly due to an imbalance in the tear lipid layer.

One of the most common causes of dry eye disease is excessive tear evaporation, which can be caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. Meibomian glands are oil glands on the edge of the eyelids where the eyelashes are located. They produce an oil that is an important component of the tear film and prevents tears from evaporating too quickly.

If tears evaporate too quickly, the eyes become dry and inflamed, eventually leading to damage to the surface of the eye.

Miebo prevents dry eyes by preventing excessive evaporation of the tear film.

Who shouldn't use Miebo?

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to perfluorohexyloctane.
