What is Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu?
Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu is a combination medicine used to treat headache, fever, body aches, cough, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, or sinus pressure caused by the flu or cold.
Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Mucinex Nightshift Cold and Flu Side Effects
If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
In rare cases, acetaminophen can cause a serious skin reaction that can be fatal.This can happen even if you have taken acetaminophen in the past and had no reaction.Stop taking this medication and call your doctor immediately if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.If you experience such a reaction, you should never take medicines that contain paracetamol again.
This medicine can cause serious side effects. Stop using this medicine and call your doctor immediately if you have:

any new or worsening symptoms;
-
nervousness, dizziness or sleepiness;
-
fever lasting more than 3 days;
-
redness, swelling, or rash;
-
persistent headaches; or
-
Pain, cough, or sinus congestion that lasts more than 7 days.
Some side effects may be more likely in older adults.
Common Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu side effects may include:

dizziness, drowsiness;
-
dry mouth, nose or throat;
-
blurred vision;
-
Constipation;
-
feeling restless or agitated (especially in children); or
-
Sleep problems (insomnia).

Warnings
Do not use this medicine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days.
An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death.Call your doctor immediately if you have stomach pain (top right), loss of appetite, fatigue, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or yellowing of your skin or eyes.
Stop taking this medication and call your doctor immediately if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.
Do not use this medicine just to make a child sleepy.
Before you take this medicine
Do not use this medicine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Dangerous drug interactions could occur. MAOIs include isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.
You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to paracetamol, dextromethorphan or triprolidine.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe to use this medicine if you have:

Liver disease, cirrhosis, alcoholism, or drinking more than 3 alcoholic drinks per day;
-
Glaucoma;
-
a condition for which you are taking warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven);
-
an enlarged prostate or problems urinating;
-
difficulty breathing; or
-
Cough with mucus or cough caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before using this medicine.
How should I use Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu?
Use exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor. An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death. Cold or cough medicines are for short-term use only, until your symptoms have subsided.
Always follow the drug label instructions when giving cough or cold medication to a child.Do not use the medicine just to make a child sleepy.In very young children, misusing cough or cold medicines can cause death.
Measure liquid medicine carefully. Use the dosing syringe provided or a medication dosing device (not a kitchen spoon).
Call your doctor if you have a sore throat for more than 2 days, especially if you also have fever, headache, rash, nausea, or vomiting.
If you need surgery or medical tests, tell the surgeon or doctor whether you have taken this medicine in the last few days.
Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Do not allow liquid medicines to freeze.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Because Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu is used as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not use two doses at the same time.
Do not take more than 4 doses of this medicine in 24 hours.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death.
Early signs of acetaminophen overdose include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, sweating, or weakness. Later symptoms may include upper abdominal pain, dark urine, and yellowing of your skin or eyes.
What should I avoid when using Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu?
Avoid alcohol. It may increase your risk of liver damage.
Avoid driving and dangerous activities until you know how this medicine affects you. Your reactions may be affected.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines that may contain acetaminophen (sometimes abbreviated as APAP).Taking too much acetaminophen can cause a fatal overdose.
What other drugs will affect Mucinex Nightshift Cold & Flu?
Avoid using this medication with other medications that cause drowsiness or slow your breathing (e.g., opioids, muscle relaxants, or anti-anxiety or seizure medications). Consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products.
