What is Synvisc One?
Synvisc-One is used to treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. It is usually given after other arthritis medications have been tried without successfully treating symptoms.
Synvisc-One may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Warnings
You should not receive Synvisc-One if you are allergic to Hylan GF 20 or if you have an infection in your knee or the skin around your knee.
Before you receive a Synvisc-One injection, tell your doctor if you have blood clots or problems with circulation in your legs, or if you have an allergy to birds, feathers, or egg products.
Avoid jogging, strenuous activity, high-impact sports, or standing for more than an hour at a time for at least 48 hours after the injection.
Call your doctor immediately if you experience severe pain or swelling in the knee area after the injection.
Before you receive Synvisc-One
You should not receive Synvisc-One if you are allergic to Hylan GF 20 or if you have an infection in your knee or the skin around your knee.
To make sure you can safely receive Synvisc-One, tell your doctor if you have:

blood clots or poor circulation in your legs; or
-
an allergy to birds, feathers or egg products.
It is not known whether Synvisc-One will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication.
It is not known whether Synvisc-One passes into breast milk or whether it could harm a breast-fed baby. If you are breast-feeding a baby, do not take this medicine without consulting your doctor.
Synvisc-One is generally not used in people under 21 years of age.
How is Synvisc-One administered?
Synvisc-One is a single-dose treatment that is injected directly into your knee. A doctor will give you this injection.
To prevent pain and swelling, your doctor may recommend resting or applying ice to your knee for a short time after the injection.
Dosage information
Usual adult dosage for osteoarthritis:Synvisc-One is administered as a single intra-articular injection. Strict aseptic administration technique must be followed.

What happens if I miss a dose?
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your Synvisc-One injection.
What happens if I overdose?
Because this medication is administered by a healthcare professional in a medical setting, overdose is unlikely.
What should I avoid?
Avoid jogging, strenuous activity, or strenuous sports such as soccer or tennis for at least 48 hours after the injection. Also avoid strenuous activities or standing for more than an hour at a time. Ask your doctor how long you should wait before resuming these activities.
Side effects of Synvisc-One
Get medical help immediately if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction to Synvisc-One: hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor immediately if you experience severe pain or swelling in the knee area after the injection.
Less serious side effects of Synvisc-One may include:

warmth, pain, stiffness, swelling, or swelling at the site where the medicine was injected;

muscle pain, difficulty walking;
-
fever, chills, nausea;
-
numbness or tingling;
-
headache, dizziness;
-
tired feeling; or
-
Itching or irritation of the skin around the knee.

What other drugs will affect Synvisc-One?
There may be other medications that can interact with Synvisc-One. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin and herbal products. Do not start taking a new medication without telling your doctor.
