Arthritis Joint Pain - Ayurveda Remedies and Treatments that Work

About 80% of the world's population is in the clutches of the disease called arthritis. Arthritis is characterized by inflammation of the joints. It is a chronic disorder that makes mobility, daily activities and life overall quite difficult. Pain or arthralgia is the defining symptom of arthritis and there is not a single arthritis patient who does not complain about painful joints. Arthritis causes joints to wear out. To understand the cause of pain, we need to take a look at the structure and functioning of a joint in the human body.

A joint is surrounded by a protective covering called a capsule. Two heads of bones that meet at a joint rotate toward each other, and the muscles around the joint contract and relax, together facilitating movement of the joints. The joint cavity is filled with synovial fluid, which acts as a lubricant and absorbs the external jerks or shocks. Cartilage appears at the point where the bone heads meet. Cartilage plays an important role in inhibiting friction between bones and provides a cushioned surface for the free and smooth movement of bones. When the cartilage becomes damaged or wears down due to factors such as aging or obesity, it can no longer control bone friction. The bones are rubbed together and may even be eroded to form spur-like outgrowths called osteophytes.

The result is an inflamed and painful joint. Aging is a major factor that causes arthritis. As we age, the cartilage becomes weak, can no longer withstand daily wear and tear and begins to flake. This degeneration leads to loss of cartilage and friction of the bones. As body weight increases, this can also lead to painful joints. The cartilage wears away under the burden of extra body weight, causing arthritis. Apart from the above two factors, heredity, history of traumatic joint injuries or infections can lead to painful joints over time. Cartilage degeneration is the most common cause of joint pain; But the buildup of fluids and uric acid crystals in the joints can also cause arthritis joint pain. Joint pain can even occur when the body's immune system begins to consume the healthy tissue in the joint. This applies to rheumatoid arthritis. Knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, wrist and even the spine are the joints that are prone to the attack of arthritis.
