Max Clarity for Acne – Does It Work?
Max Clarity is a three-step acne treatment product that was released in 2008. When it first hit the market, one of its biggest successes was that it is manufactured by a reputable company, Steifel Laboratories, which claims to have been providing prescription skin treatments for over 160 years. In 2009, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline acquired Boots, adding another big name to the product.
Big brand names aside, the bottom line of any product is its effectiveness, safety, and customer service. In terms of effectiveness, Max Clarity claims that using their high-tech VersaFoam penetrates the skin more effectively to reach deeper areas. In reality, this foam is basically micronized or super-tiny liquid ingredients dispersed in the air, something you'll find in other acne creams. And when you break it down into its key ingredients, this product is no different than any other treatment you'll find on the market. It uses 2.5% benzoyl peroxide in the cleansing and day care foam and 0.5% salicylic acid in the night toner.
The verdict? Both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are effective in treating mild to moderate acne. In this respect, Max Clarity is no different from other acne solutions. A slight difference is that since it is pure foam, you can keep it on your face all day long (like the day treatment). This could (but not definitely) help treat more stubborn pimples.
In terms of safety, as with all benzoyl peroxide-based products, this ingredient can be too harsh and dry out the skin. Sensitive skin types may notice particularly irritated, red and flaky skin. You will need to purchase a separate moisturizer to prevent the skin from becoming too dry, which others may find off-putting. Another minus point is that you cannot stay in the sun for too long when using the product and even if you use sunscreen, there is a chance that it will not protect you adequately. If this happens, you may experience even more irritated, red skin. Benzoyl peroxide can also bleach your clothes, so you need to be extra careful when applying it.
Maybe a good point about the product is that they listen to customer complaints, or at least a lot of them. In April 2011, Boots temporarily removed the product from its website because they had to change their dispensers due to customers complaining that the dispensers were not working.
In summary, Max Clarity can help with mild to moderate acne. But since it's basically no different from other acne products other than the use of foam, you can try cheaper alternatives first before using them. While this Max Clarity Review can provide insight into this particular product, you can also check out other acne product reviews to find the right acne solution for you.
