7 signs and symptoms to watch out for

From sudden weight loss to flashes of light, don't ignore important signs and symptoms and know when to seek medical attention.

Chest pain, an upset stomach, sudden loss of vision or speech, and severe abdominal pain require immediate medical attention, but what about more signs that are more subtle? We may not know what to do. Here is a list of seven signs and symptoms that require attention to maintain a healthy life.

1. Unexplained weight loss

Losing weight without trying may sound like a dream come true, but in reality it could indicate an underlying health problem. If you've lost up to 10 percent of your weight in the past six months, 15 pounds if you weigh 150 pounds, it's time to see your doctor immediately.

Unexplained weight loss can be caused by a variety of medical conditions, including hyperthyroidism, diabetes, depression, liver disease, cancer, or disorders that affect your body's ability to absorb nutrients.

2. Persistent or high fever

Fever is not always a cause for concern. Fever appears to play a key role in fighting infections. If your fever lasts longer than three days, see your doctor for an evaluation. Persistent fever can indicate a hidden infection, which can range from a urinary tract infection to tuberculosis. In some cases, cancers such as lymphoma cause persistent or persistent fever, as do some medications.

If you have a high fever, contact your doctor as soon as possible.

3. Shortness of breath

If you are unable to breathe, gasping for air, or panting, seek emergency medical attention. Shortness of breath that feels more severe than that caused by a stuffy nose or vigorous exercise may indicate an underlying health problem. Feeling breathless while lying down is also a symptom that needs to be examined immediately.

4. Unexplained changes in bowel habits

What is considered normal for bowel movements varies greatly? Consult your doctor if you notice any unusual or unexplained changes in what is normal for you, such as:

• Bloody, black, or tar-colored stools

• Persistent diarrhea or constipation

5. Confusion or personality changes

See a doctor if you:

• Sudden confused thinking

• Confusion about time or place

• Sudden problems concentrating or remembering

• Sudden personality or behavior changes, e.g. B. aggressiveness

Changes in behavior or thinking can be caused by many problems, including infections, anemia, low blood sugar, dehydration, or mental illness. Sometimes medications contribute to confusion or personality changes.

6. Feel full after very little

If you feel consistently full sooner than normal or after less than usual, get checked out by your doctor. This feeling, known as early satiety, may also be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, blotting, fever, and weight loss or gain. If so, tell your doctor about these signs and symptoms too.

7. Flashes of light

Bright spots or flashes of light and other visual disturbances sometimes indicate a migraine. In other cases, suddenly flashing lights can signal a retinal detachment. Prompt medical care can help prevent vision loss.
