To help your child, you must be able to recognize the triggers of an attack and develop a response that the child can learn so that over time they can develop a strategy that works for them. Watch for signs such as shaking, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, dizziness, and feinting. All of this can be a sign that your child is suffering from irrational and unprovoked fears that are causing panic attacks.

The key to helping your child is early detection. If you can detect the onset of an attack early enough, a mix of comfort and distraction will help. The greatest source of comfort for your child is most likely the security of a parent's love. Combine this with effectively diverting your child's attention to something that you know triggers happy, safe feelings.

Attacks on children are likely to result in a decline in the child's academic performance and possibly avoidance of school altogether and fear of separation from parents or safety at home, as well as substance abuse, depression, and even suicidal thoughts.
