The best kept secret for anti-aging and preventing hair loss is the mineral silica

Silica is a relatively unknown mineral to the public that is absolutely amazing because what it does for the body is nothing short of a miracle.

Silicon dioxide, also known as silicon, is a combination of silicon and oxygen, two of the most common elements on Earth. It is in the grass that the herbivores eat. Herbivorous animals have the most silica and carnivorous animals have less. Silica is found in leafy greens, onions, alfalfa and whole grains.

When you were little you had an abundance of silica and that is why when you look at children you have beautiful silky hair, skin and nails.

Silica is important for bone growth and development and an abundance of this mineral works with calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and boron. This promotes strong bones and teeth. We are born with lots of silica and little calcium, but as we age we lose silica and have more calcium. Calcium requires silica (and the minerals mentioned above) to be absorbed into the system. So if you're trying to treat a deficiency, you may not be able to manage it by simply consuming more calcium. A silica deficiency is a precursor to calcium deficiency.

In several studies of broken bones, it was shown that people with high calcium healed slowly and people with low calcium and high silicon healed very quickly. It has also been shown to be effective in helping burns heal.

This trace mineral is used by all tissues and organs of the body and is needed to produce collagen, which promotes smooth, healthy skin, hair, nails and tissue elasticity. And who wouldn’t want to keep it that way! It is believed that silica can improve the cardiovascular system. People with higher amounts of silica have been shown to have fewer problems with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

Silica has an impact on the brain, nervous system and proper sexual functions. Men with prostate problems and women with cysts or vaginal problems can benefit from taking this mineral. It counteracts the effects of aluminum on the body by excreting it, so middle-aged to elderly people may be able to prevent Alzheimer's disease by supplementing this mineral.

It stimulates the immune system and inhibits the aging process. In short, a deficiency of this mineral has a profound impact on our body and our ability to heal and the obviously visible effects of skin aging, brittle bones and hair loss.

An abundance of silica alkalizes the body. This is important because a body that becomes acidic from poor nutrition and environmental toxicity is much more likely to suffer from immune problems and disease. A silica-rich environment is alkaline and pH balanced. There are test strips you can purchase at your local drugstore to determine if you are acidic. Regular intake of silica can return your body to its natural pH balance, that and a healthy diet and exercise.

Silica supplements are not for young people (who have a lot of silica). If you are in your mid to late forties, you may have a deficiency. Silica is best taken in liquid form as this is best absorbed by the body.
