Having a full head of hair is something that most men want to hold onto for as long as possible. Going bald or having a receding hairline happens to a number of men and can dramatically affect their self-esteem.
There are a few reasons for this:
genetics
Male pattern baldness, or hair loss, is largely determined by our genes, and genetics is probably the most common explanation for why men lose their hair. It is estimated that more than 80% of cases of hair loss in men are hereditary.
Natural hair loss
Losing a certain amount of hair is a natural process. From morning to evening, an average adult man loses about 100 hairs from his head, and although some are replaced with new ones, others are not. This is all part of the natural aging process.
Sudden or patchy hair loss
Sudden or patchy hair loss can occur due to stress or an underlying condition or medical condition. Alopecia affects approximately 2% of all people at some point in their lives. It is an immune system disorder that causes the follicles to stop producing hair. Small amounts of hair are suddenly lost in small patches. In most cases, the condition is temporary and hair growth in the bald patch returns, but about 10% of those who suffer from alopecia experience longer-term hair loss.
Many men think that thick hair means youth and good health, but that thinning or balding indicates a body and mind that is aging. Sometimes it feels like they are fighting a losing battle and despite their best efforts, they think that nothing can stop the inevitable baldness.
A hair transplant can give the client a full, natural-looking head of hair using the client's own follicles. The doctor removes hair follicles from parts of the scalp where there is a high density of hair and then transplants them into the thinning or balding areas.
The two main hair transplant techniques are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which involve two steps:
Follicular unit extraction(FUE) is simple and painless. Hair follicles are extracted individually using custom-made, precise microsurgical tools less than a millimeter in diameter. The doctor extracts the hair without an incision, meaning there is minimal discomfort after the procedure and recovery time is quick.
Follicular unit transplant(FUT) is the restoration procedure when the extracted hair is transplanted into the balding or thinning areas in its naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs. For the hairline, individual hairs are transplanted and for behind the hairline, larger groups are added for density. Each follicular unit is extracted and transplanted with its sebaceous glands, nerve and blood supply.
In men, hair loss can cause major problems and lead to poor self-confidence and low self-esteem. Many of them do everything they can to prevent hair loss.
