ANSWER:
1. c – The number of new thyroid cases is increasing in the US, potentially affecting up to 1 in 5 people. According to the American Cancer Society, cases of thyroid cancer have doubled since 1990.
2. c - It is estimated that 90% of thyroid problems in the United States are caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the first recognized autoimmune disease. Hashimoto's thyroiditis, also known as lymphatic thyroiditis, was discovered in 1912 by Dr. Hakaru Hashimoto reports. The symptoms of this disease can vary between those associated with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. The reason for this fluctuation is that the destroyed thyroid tissue releases thyroxine into the bloodstream in larger quantities when the immune system actively attacks the thyroid. This leads to symptoms of hyperthyroidism – such as inability to gain weight, racing heart and feelings of anxiety. When the attack subsides, there is a less functioning thyroid and therefore less than normal amounts of thyroid hormone. This leads to symptoms of hypothyroidism - sluggish feelings, brain fog, weight gain even when you diet and exercise.
Another important point about this autoimmune thyroid disease is that the immune system may not stop attacking just the thyroid. Other organs, particularly the brain (cerebellum) and pancreas, are also at risk. It is important to diagnose and treat this condition as early and completely as possible.
3. a – Anemia is typically the first sign of hypothyroidism. Anemia is diagnosed in 20-60% of patients with hypothyroidism. There are three different ways hypothyroidism can cause anemia:
- Niedrige Magensäure (Hypochlohydria)
- Autoimmunzerstörung des intrinsischen Faktors (IF) in der Magenschleimhaut
- Übermäßige Menstruationsblutung
4.a – Twenty percent (20%) of T3 is converted from T4 in the intestine. When the gut is dysfunctional and inflamed, this conversion is interrupted and there is less T3 available for the body. Gut health is essential for normal metabolism. When the intestines are inflamed and affected by parasites and/or infections, thyroid hormone levels are reduced.
5. a – Intestinal sulfatase. The thyroid hormones T3S and T3AC are inactive until they enter the gastrointestinal tract and are affected by intestinal sulfatase. When a sufficient amount of intestinal sulfatase is present, normal conversion of T3S and T3AC to T3 occurs. Intestinal sulfatase activity depends on healthy intestinal flora.
