Thrombosis is known as blood clotting. A thrombosed hemorrhoid is a clotted hemorrhoid. It is very painful because it swells a lot. In some cases, thrombosed hemorrhoids can be very dangerous. There are many smaller blood vessels in a hemorrhoid. Once a large vessel has a blood clot, smaller vessels that depend on the blood clot begin to die. Smaller capillaries bringing blood to the area begin to compensate, but this may not be enough. If this condition is not addressed, the clot will begin to rot and become gangrenous within a few days. Tissue death occurs, which is a very perfect medium for bacterial growth.

Another complication of a blood clot from a hemorrhoid is a condition known as thromboembolism. This condition occurs when a blood clot dislodges from its area and travels through the blood vessels and consequently attaches to the lungs or heart, which can cause organ malfunction leading to death. Pulmonary embolism is a condition in which a blood clot lodges in the lungs, particularly the alveoli.

When blood clots block air exchange, reduced oxygen supply occurs. The entire body is then deprived of oxygen due to the blockage. For the heart, myocardial infarction can occur. This is known as a heart attack. Due to the blockage of the clot in the large vessel that supplies blood to the heart, there is no longer enough oxygen to affect the heart's function. These conditions are an emergency, although they occur rarely.

A thrombotic hemorrhoid constricts blood flow, and thrombosis is worsened by reduced blood flow. This is a vicious circle. If this condition is not corrected right then and there, you are likely to face more problems in the future.
