A Chiropractor's Perspective on Lower Back Pain

Do you know someone with back pain? At any given time, there are 31 million Americans who experience lower back pain. This is just the lower back without the neck and middle back. Just think of how many Americans also experience neck and back pain.

The ACA (American Chiropractic Association) website states: "Back pain is the second leading cause of all doctor visits in the United States. In fact, half of all working Americans admit to having back pain each year. According to a study by the American Chiropractic Association in 2001, 43% of patients seen by a chiropractor were treated for back pain."

What is the cause of back pain? There are many factors that can contribute to this. Stress and trauma are two of the most common causes. Stress on muscles and joints from activities such as sports or other activities of daily living, as well as psychological stress, can lead to spinal misalignment and muscle spasms. Car wrecks, slips, falls, and even repetitive motions are some of the traumas that can cause misalignment.

Stress and repetitive movements must be addressed when dealing with chronic muscle pain. If a muscle hurts for a long period of time, therapy may be necessary. It's also a good idea to determine the cause of the stress or try to reduce the amount of movement in a repetitive motion.

After a muscle is injured by trauma, e.g. B. lifting a heavy object that causes back pain, the healing process must definitely begin with therapy. Chiropractic care is a great therapy for muscle and joint pain.

Chiropractic care is fantastic for relieving pain but also preventing future problems. Chiropractic care can be like going to the dentist, where your teeth are checked and cleaned regularly. Disc injury prevention is always better than rehab and recovery.

Chiropractic care can help prevent disc injuries by giving a joint a greater range of motion through manipulation of the spine. This increase in range of motion prevents scar tissue and calcium deposits from developing around the joint. The muscles can also move through a better range of motion after spinal manipulation.

The number of muscles in the human body varies between 656 and 850 depending on which source you consult. But what causes muscle pain? Some common causes are stress and overexertion. Muscle soreness caused by exercise or other forms of physical exertion usually disappears after a few days. Other causes of muscle pain may persist until something is done about them.

There are many things you can do to relieve back pain. A helpful tip that everyone can do to relieve lower back pain at night is to keep a comfortable pillow near your knees. Holding a pillow between your knees while sleeping on your side can help relieve hip tension. And a pillow under your knees while you sleep on your back can help relieve tension in your lower back. Make sure it's comfortable from the start. If there is pain, stop immediately.

Always consult your doctor before trying new sleeping positions. There are certain conditions that could potentially be exacerbated from these positions. There are certain orthopedic pillows that help balance the natural curve in your neck and lower back. These pillows can help relieve pain throughout the night and even relieve pain the next day.

Lower back pain can be frustrating and may not improve overnight. Try a more conservative approach to relieving your lower back pain first before trying more invasive procedures.
