4 Tips to Overcome Negativity and Depression
There is no question that negativity is a drain. Most people will actively avoid negative people whenever possible and keep their contact with them to an absolute minimum. But it can also be a downward spiral. So what can you do if you are suffering from an excess of negativity that may even be leading you into depression?
1. Be grateful more often
Gratitude is a powerful weapon against negativity.
It's pretty much the opposite and as you learn to be grateful more often, you'll find that your negativity has trouble coping with your newfound gratitude.
First, just say “thank you” more often. Ideally out loud, but at least in your head.
And if necessary, find things to be grateful for - the air you breathe, the clothes you wear, everything!
If possible, keep a gratitude journal and write down at least three things that happened during the day that you are grateful for. This will help you get your mind in the right place to sleep.
2. Get more exercise
Exercise releases endorphins into your body.
This is a natural “feel-good” mechanism that works faster, better and safer than any medication (prescription or otherwise) and arises from exercise.
Exercise doesn't have to mean going to the gym, the pool, or even jogging.
It can be as simple as leaving the car at home for short trips or parking a little further away from the store entrance.
Or you could go for a walk on purpose! This works well as long as the weather isn't too bad.
3. Eat healthy
Comfort food is often anything but comforting.
It may be something you eat that gives you a quick sugar high, but the negative side of eating foods that aren't exactly healthy soon follows.
Reduce excess sugar.
Reduce caffeine gradually (it's not a good idea to eliminate caffeine from your diet all at once).
Make slightly healthier choices when it comes to eating – even if that means reading labels. A good rule is to not eat anything where you don't understand some of the ingredients and wouldn't add them if you were making the recipe at home. So if you don't keep high fructose corn syrup or artificial partner aspartame in your kitchen, don't buy products with it.
And make sure you drink plenty of fluids – water is best, but anything not soaked in sugar or caffeine is fine.
4. Hypnotize yourself
Negativity is not something you choose.
It is something your subconscious has developed as a protection mechanism for you.
And—just like you can't tell your nails to stop growing—removing negativity or depression on a conscious level isn't easy.
Hypnosis works with your subconscious to subtly change your behavior and reduce negativity in your life.
It's very simple - you just listen to a hypnosis recording (easier and more flexible than a hypnotist) and let it work.
