Heartburn help at home

From around the age of 15 I suffered from the effects of acidic digestion. It continued to plague me through high school, college, and most of my adult life. After putting more than a few children of executives through some university, I began researching and experimenting with various remedies. I did this to not only get lasting relief but also to cut some expenses.

Here's how I gained complete control of heartburn and acid reflux:

1. I add a teaspoon of aluminum-free baking soda to a jar and fill it with 4 to 8 ounces of cold water. Believe me, the colder the water, the better. It's just easier when the water is cold.

2. I use aluminum-free baking powder. After seeing the damage aluminum can do to the brain, I avoid regular baking powder on the baking shelves of most grocery stores.

3. Then I stir the concoction really well and pour it down in one go.

4. Sit back and relax while the witch's brew does its thing.

That's it. I understand that it doesn't cure acid indigestion or acid reflux, but neither do the prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. It just costs less and there is nothing associated with a drug recall or lawsuit. If you've ever watched afternoon syndicated television, you know what I'm talking about.

So which is better? For me it has to be natural control of symptoms.

When it comes to acid reflux, while I can control symptoms better than aluminum-free baking soda, a good dose of my salty, fizzy cocktail makes me sleep like a baby all night long. There have been more than a few times that I've broken the cardinal rule of eating after 7 p.m. It's a terrible feeling to wake up from a dead sleep and experience the same sensations as drowning. I quickly learned that baking soda applied before bed was perfect for preventing an attack of acid reflux.

I can say that this remedy has never failed to provide relief, quick relief for my acid indigestion. Doctors say you shouldn't take too much or nothing at all. Of course, they would rather write you a prescription so they can take that free trip to Europe with the compliments of their local pharmaceutical rep. I notice that my stomach doesn't blow when I have more acid than usual. I just burp or get gassy for a few minutes. My body tends to naturally deal with the pressure of the resulting gas.

Applying baking soda is a temporary but effective protocol for eliminating the symptoms of acidic digestion. I do not give medical advice. I am not a trained doctor. I can tell you what I'm doing to combat this disease. Whether this is right for you is up to you.
