Fruit contains ACID, and as everyone on the planet knows, ACID corrodes everything it touches. Think rusty bucket, rusty cars, rusty plumbing (anyone who owns a home over 30 years old knows what that's like) and yes - rusty gullets/throats. Maybe our esophaguses (I like to say this) don't rust like metal, but any ACID ingested also corrodes our plumbing - it eats away at the lining of our esophagus (smiles) until it eventually starts to look more like an intestine than an esophagus. Do I have to say more? I love chocolate too. Health experts say chocolate...

Health experts say that chocolate (in small amounts, of course) is good for your health because it promotes something called flavonoids, also known as aromatic antioxidants. Really? So what the heck are aromatic antioxidants! Chocolate can cause ACID REFLUX and the only aromatic thing about ACID REFLUX is the distinct smell of good..., you know - vomiting, bad breath - no smell, good. There's nothing aromatic or sexy about it.

Another one of my favorites is pasta. Pasta in the morning, pasta in the evening, pasta for dinner... my food - but not good either.

Coffee is not good, neither is ice cream. Potato salad is not good, and neither is meat - any kind, and hey - before you start thinking that the only thing left is dirt or grass, let me explain - even healthy foods are bad for GERD sufferers when eaten in HUGE quantities - especially before bed.

So before you start thinking about your local preacher reading you your last rites because there really is no good reason for you to keep living, let me tell you - YOU CAN - keep living, eating and enjoying life.

So here is the BIG NEWS:

For all you GERD sufferers out there, ANYTHING can be eaten, whether homegrown, store-bought, man-made, or prepared in your mother-in-law's kitchen. Of course, you already know the foods that wreak havoc on you, so stay away from them. Whatever else you do, remember that fashion ration is the key to success. No real secret. None at all.

What can you do about it? Do you have to ask me? After everything I explained, you still have to ask?????

Ah….., then ok.

Ummm, just take it, buddy. Be economical with portions; don't eat too much, but eat often; Make sure your plate has colors other than brown (meat) and white (potatoes/rice) - I recommend at least 5 colors at each meal; eat slowly; do not eat too much at dinner; and don’t forget to enjoy your meals – savor every bite.
