The accident occurred at a level crossing with a barrier, but according to police there are currently no signs of a technical defect in the barrier. The cyclist was accompanied by his wife, who was near him at the time of the accident but was not on the tracks.
After the collision, rescue workers and pastors were immediately alerted to look after the people affected. Both the wife of the deceased as well as the train driver and the passengers of the train were cared for and supported on site.
