Focus on fatty liver: These types of fruit help liver health!
Around a third of adults in Germany suffer from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFL), a disease that is also increasingly being observed in children - every third overweight child has fatty liver disease. Loud Fulda newspaper NAFL is the most common liver disease in industrialized countries, affecting men more often than women. The causes are diverse and range from unhealthy diet and obesity to genetic factors, diabetes mellitus and lack of exercise.
In many cases, fatty liver disease is asymptomatic, which increases the risk of further diseases. The disease is often discovered accidentally during ultrasound or blood tests. There are currently no drug treatments, but the liver can regenerate through lifestyle changes. A healthy lifestyle that includes losing weight, increasing exercise, avoiding alcohol, and eating a low-fat and low-calorie diet is crucial. In particular, diabetics should pay attention to good blood sugar regulation.
Diet to cure fatty liver disease
Vegetables should form the basis of the diet, supplemented by protein-rich foods and high-quality vegetable oils. Low-sugar fruits are particularly recommended, as they can help detoxify and heal the liver. These include:
- Heidelbeeren
- Clementinen
- Avocado
- Brombeeren
- Apfel
- Orange
- Pflaume
It is also advisable to avoid fruits rich in sugar such as grapes, pineapples, bananas, mangoes and cherries. Sugared canned fruits, dried fruits, candied fruits and fruit purees are also unsuitable for liver health.
How Eat Smarter reports, the right diet to reverse fatty liver disease includes weight loss of at least 5% of body weight and is crucial to the recovery process. Eating two to three meals a day, avoiding frequent snacking, and consuming foods rich in fiber also help with digestion. Recommended foods include whole grain products, at least three servings of vegetables daily and 1-2 servings of fruit. Among other things, white flour products and alcoholic drinks should be avoided.
Early detection of fatty liver disease is crucial. Liver blood values should be tested regularly, especially in overweight people and diabetics, in order to monitor the health of the liver and take active action if necessary.
