CDU politician Frei warns: health reforms are imminent!

Thorsten Frei, parliamentary director of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, stated in an interview with the media company “Table Briefings” that unpleasant decisions have to be made in the areas of health, care and pensions. Frei, who is also one of the Union's chief negotiators in the coalition talks with the SPD, emphasized the need for a reallocation of public spending.

He warned that increased spending on defense could lead to cuts in other areas. Frei called for these challenges to be communicated openly in order to inform the public about the upcoming measures. The Union and the SPD have already jointly announced far-reaching structural reforms in the health and care sector in their coalition agreement. These announcements could have far-reaching consequences for the affected areas, such as the Bundestag reported.

Challenges in the political landscape

In view of the current situation, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group calls for transparent communication about the necessary measures that will be discussed as part of the coalition talks with the SPD. Frei sees the need to prepare the population for the upcoming changes in order to counteract possible resistance in advance. This comes against the background that the coalition is already aiming for far-reaching reforms and changes to meet the challenges in the health and care sector.
