In a revolutionary decision, SpaceX plans to send laypeople on a “spacewalk” for the first time. SpaceX plans to launch the Polaris Dawn mission on July 31, led by billionaire Jared Isaacman. This had already financed the lay mission “Inspiration4”, which orbited the earth in autumn 2021. The “Polaris” program now plans to conduct three space flights with SpaceX spacecraft, with the first mission including the historic step of the first private “spacewalk”.
The crew will test SpaceX's new spacesuits at an altitude of about 700 kilometers and conduct research in space, including human health experiments and studies in the Van Allen radiation belt. These findings should help to better understand the effects of space flights on health.
