False identity in the therapy industry: scandal surrounding alleged therapist exposed
Online therapy scams shock hundreds of patients
A particularly tragic case of online therapy fraud has severely affected hundreds of patients in Florida. A woman posed as a therapist for two years and treated people under the guise of professionalism. Her fraud was only discovered after her death and left the community shocked.
The deception by the supposed therapist
The woman, T. Heath-Randolph, worked with her wife, an actual licensed social worker named P. A. Randolph, to mislead patients. While P. A. Randolph had the real qualifications, T. G. Heath-Randolph had no license or training to treat patients. Nevertheless, she conducted hundreds of sessions in which she illicitly used her wife's identity.
Uncovering the fraud after the fraudster's death
It was only after Heath-Randolph's death that the hoax was discovered. An alert patient learned of the deception via social media and reported the incident to Brightside Health. The company discovered that P. A. Randolph's credentials were used by her late wife. She was then fired and voluntarily renounced her licenses.
Brightside organized the reassignment of the affected patients, reimbursed the costs of the fraudulent treatments and informed the appropriate authorities. The Tennessee health inspectorate also fined the fraudsters. The company emphasized how important trust is in the therapy relationship and how disappointed they are by the incident.
Be careful with online therapy
The scam clearly shows how important it is to be careful when offering online therapy. There are many dubious practices online that can harm patients. In case of doubt, it is recommended that you always contact your health insurance company to check the seriousness of the therapy offer. It is advisable to do enough research before using online therapy and not to make any hasty decisions.
