Aerial bomb from World War II discovered in Krumpa: evacuation and explosion planned
New discovery of a World War II bomb in the Saale district is causing a stir
Once again, an explosive discovery is causing an uproar in the Saale district. An aircraft bomb from the Second World War that weighs around 500 kilograms was found in the town of Krumpa. Due to the detonator, defusing is not possible, so the bomb must be detonated on site. The unexploded bomb was discovered in a field intended for the construction of a photovoltaic system.
The authorities react quickly to the situation. Several streets had to be evacuated on Friday and a daycare center remained closed. Residents are asked to leave their homes by 11:30 a.m. at the latest and are expected to be able to return from 4 p.m. A sports hall is provided as emergency accommodation. In addition, from tomorrow onwards, Deutsche Bahn will no longer serve the Krumpa stop and the Merseburg-Querfurt passenger transport company (PNVG) will also not serve the affected stops.
This new discovery joins a series of military ordnance discoveries in the region. Recently a bomb was defused just a hundred meters away. In the past, several explosive ordnances have been found in the area and successfully disposed of. Krumpa, as a district of Braunsbedra, remains the focus of attention when dealing with historical burdens from past wars.
