The neuroscientific conference “BrainBusiness | MedEcon Ruhr” took place on July 5, 2024. This exchange format brings together different perspectives from science, healthcare and business in order to learn from each other and develop innovative solutions.
One focus was on the area of mental health. Prof. Dirk Scheele from the Faculty of Psychology spoke about the effects of chronic loneliness and social isolation. The Chair of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology presented the Urban Mental Health Project, which focuses on the mental health of children and adolescents. Healthy Project GmbH presented solutions for video consultations, especially in the area of psychotherapeutic care. These contributions demonstrated the potential for collaboration between neuroscience, healthcare, and business innovation.
Another focus was on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Prof. Konstanze Winklhofer explained the pathomechanisms of these diseases, while Prof. Dr. Klaus Gewert from PRODI spoke about advances in early detection. Prof. Dr. Lars Tönges emphasized the importance of multiprofessional care for Parkinson's patients and emphasized the role of networks in organizing this care. The discussion highlighted the challenges and opportunities in caring for patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
