Use for 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine, diphtheria conjugate

A pneumococcal infection can cause serious problems such as: B. pneumonia that affects the lungs; meningitis, which affects the brain; and bacteremia, a serious infection of the blood. Pneumococcal infection is also an important cause of ear infections in children.

Unless there is another contraindication, vaccination (vaccination) against pneumococcal disease is recommended for infants and young children aged 6 weeks to 5 years (before their 6th birthday), for children aged 6 to 17 years (before their 18th birthday), or until then adults aged 18 years and over.

In infants and young children, 1 to 4 doses of vaccine are required for the first dose, depending on their age. This vaccine can be given at the same time as other routine vaccinations.

This vaccine should only be given by or under the supervision of your doctor.

Before using the 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine diphtheria conjugate

When deciding whether to use a vaccine, the risks of vaccination must be weighed against the benefits it brings. This is a decision that you and your doctor will make. The following should be taken into account with this vaccine:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had an unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your doctor if you have other allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives or animals. For over-the-counter products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatrics

The 13-valent pneumococcal-diphtheria conjugate vaccine is generally well tolerated and effective in children. Safety and effectiveness in children younger than 6 weeks have not been established.

geriatrics

Related studies conducted to date have not demonstrated any geriatric-specific problems that would limit the utility of the 13-valent pneumococcal-diphtheria conjugate vaccine in the elderly.

Breastfeeding

There are insufficient studies in women to determine the risk to infants when using this drug while breast-feeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Drug interactions

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines can be used together, although interactions may occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose or other precautions may be necessary. If you are receiving this vaccine, it is especially important that your doctor knows if you are taking any of the medicines listed below. The following interactions were selected for their potential significance and are not necessarily exhaustive.

Interactions with food/tobacco/alcohol

Certain medicines should not be taken during or near food or consumption of certain foods because interactions may occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain medications can also lead to interactions. Discuss using your medicine with food, alcohol or tobacco with your doctor.

Other medical problems

The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this vaccine. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:

Proper use of 13-valent pneumococcal vaccine and diphtheria conjugate

A nurse or other trained health professional will give this vaccine to you or your child. This vaccine is given as an injection into one of the muscles, usually the thigh or upper arm.

For infants and young children aged 6 weeks to 5 years (before their 6th birthday): This vaccine is usually given in 4 separate vaccinations over several months. Your child's doctor will tell you the correct number of vaccinations required and the vaccination schedule.

For children aged 6 to 17 years (before their 18th birthday): This vaccine is given as a single dose. If your child has recently received a dose of this vaccine, the next dose should be given at least 8 weeks later.

For adults 18 years and older: This vaccine is given as a single dose.

The vaccine must be administered on a fixed schedule. Try to keep all agreed appointments. If your child misses a dose, call your child's doctor to make another appointment.
