What is the Basaglar Tempo Pen?
Basaglar Tempo Pen is used to improve blood sugar control in people with diabetes mellitus.
Toujeo is for use in adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
Basaglar, Lantus and Semglee are intended for use in adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and in children aged 6 years and older with type 1 (not type 2) diabetes.
For type 1 diabetes, Basaglar Tempo Pen is used together with short-acting insulin before meals.
Basaglar Tempo Pen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Side effects of Basaglar Tempo Pen
If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of insulin allergy:Redness or swelling at the injection site, itchy rash all over the body, difficulty breathing, fast heartbeat, feeling like you might faint, or swelling of the tongue or throat.
Basaglar Tempo Pen can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

rapid weight gain, swelling of the feet or ankles;
-
Shortness of breath; or
-
low levels of potassium in the blood - leg cramps, constipation, irregular heartbeat, fluttering in the chest, increased thirst or need to urinate, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness or feeling weak.
Common side effects of Basaglar Tempo Pen may include:

low blood sugar;
-
swelling, weight gain;
-
allergic reaction, itching, rash; or
-
Thickening or deepening of the skin at the injection site.

Never share an injection pen with others, even if you have changed the needle.
Before you take this medicine
You should not use Basaglar Tempo Pen if you are allergic to insulin or if you are suffering from an episode of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or diabetic ketoacidosis (call your doctor for treatment).
The Basaglar Tempo Pen is not approved for use by anyone under the age of 6 and some brands are intended for adult use only.Do not use this medicine to treat type 2 diabetes in children of any age.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:
-
liver or kidney disease; or
-
Heart failure or other heart problems.
Tell your doctor if you are also taking pioglitazone or rosiglitazone (sometimes included in combination with glimepiride or metformin). Taking certain oral diabetes medications while using insulin may increase your risk of serious heart problems.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Follow your doctor's instructions for using this medicineif you are pregnant or become pregnant.Controlling diabetes is very important during pregnancy.
How should I use the Basaglar Tempo Pen?
Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Basaglar Tempo Pen is usually injected under the skin once daily at the same time of day.
When treating type 1 diabetes, use your short-acting insulin before meals as directed by your doctor.
Basaglar Tempo Pen must not be administered with an insulin pump or mixed with other insulins. Do not inject this medicine into a vein or muscle.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not know how to use an injection.
Do not prepare an injection until you are ready to give it. Call your pharmacist if the medicine looks cloudy, has changed color, or contains particles.
Your doctor will show you where to inject Basaglar Tempo Pen. Do not inject in the same place twice in a row.
Avoid injecting into skin that is damaged, tender, bruised, scarred, thickened, flaky, or has scars or hard nodules.
Toujeocontains 300 units of insulin glargine per milliliter (ml), which is three times stronger than brands that contain 100 units per ml.
Your dosage needs may change if you change to a different brand, strength, or form of this medication. Avoid medication errors by only taking the medications your doctor prescribes.
If you use an injection pen, only use the injection pen that comes with the Basaglar Tempo Pen. Attach a new needle before each use. Do not transfer insulin from the pen into a syringe.
Never share an injection pen with others, even if you have changed the needle. Sharing these devices can spread infections from person to person.
Blood sugar levels can be affected by stress, illness, surgery, exercise, drinking alcohol or skipping meals.
Low blood sugar(hypoglycemia)may make you feel very hungry, dizzy, irritable or shaky. To quickly treat hypoglycemia, eat or drink non-diet candies, crackers, raisins, fruit juice, or soda. If hypoglycemia is severe, your doctor may prescribe a glucagon injection.
Tell your doctor if you have frequent symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), such as: B. increased thirst or increased urination. Consult your doctor before changing the dosage of your medication.
Store this medicine in the original container and protect it from heat and light. Do not freeze insulin or store it near the cooling element in the refrigerator.Throw away frozen insulin.
Storing the unopened (unused) Basaglar Tempo Pen:

Store in the refrigerator and use until expiration date; or
-
(Basaglar, Lantus or Semglee) Store at room temperature (below 86 degrees Fahrenheit) and use within 28 days.
Storing the opened (in use) Basaglar Tempo Pen:

Store the vial in the refrigerator or at room temperature and use within 28 days.

Store the injection pen at room temperature (not in the refrigerator) and use it within 28 days.

Store Toujeo at room temperature below 30°C (do not refrigerate) and use within 56 days.
Do not store an injection pen with the needle attached. Do not reuse a needle or syringe. Place them in a puncture-resistant sharps container and dispose of in accordance with state or local laws. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Wear a medical alert tag or ID to let others know you have diabetes.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss a dose.NotTake more than one dose in 24 hours unless your doctor tells you to.
Get your prescription refilled before you completely run out of medication.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.An overdose of insulin can result in severe hypoglycemia.Symptoms include drowsiness, confusion, blurred vision, numbness or tingling in the mouth, difficulty speaking, muscle weakness, clumsy or jerky movements, seizures (convulsions), or loss of consciousness.
What should I avoid when using the Basaglar Tempo Pen?
Avoid driving and dangerous activities until you know how Basaglar Tempo Pen affects you. Your reactions may be affected.
Avoid medication errors by always checking the medication label before injecting your insulin.
Avoid alcohol and taking medicines that contain alcohol. It may interfere with your diabetes treatment.
What other drugs will affect Basaglar Tempo Pen?
Many medications can affect your blood sugar levels and can also affect Basaglar Tempo Pen. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal products. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking. Not all possible interactions are listed here.
