What is Cortizone-10?
There are many brands and forms of topical hydrocortisone. Not all brands are listed in this medication guide.

Side effects of cortisone-10
If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction: Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
Side effects can occur when your skin absorbs topical steroid medications. Tell your doctor if you have:
-
swelling, weight gain (especially of the face or upper back and trunk);
-
thinning skin, stretch marks, acne, increased facial hair;
-
irregular menstruation, changes in sexual function; or
-
Memory problems, irritability.
Cortizone-10 can have serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:
-
worsening of your skin condition;
-
pain, tenderness, headache;
-
blurred vision, eye pain or redness, seeing halos around lights;
-
high blood sugar – increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath smell; or
-
Increased adrenal hormones – hunger, weight gain, swelling, skin discoloration, slow wound healing, sweating, acne, increased body hair, fatigue, mood swings, muscle weakness, lack of menstruation, sexual changes.
Children may absorb larger amounts of Cortizone-10 through the skin and may be at higher risk of side effects.
Common side effects of Cortizone-10 may include:

skin redness, itching, stinging, rash;
-
redness or crusting around your hair follicles;
-
burning, dryness or other irritation of the treated skin;
-
rash, redness, itching or irritation around the mouth;
-
appearance and color changes of the treated skin;
-
Signs of skin infection (swelling, redness, warmth, oozing); O
-
Numbness, tingling or burning pain.

Warnings
Use only as directed. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines or have any other medical conditions or allergies.
Before you take this medicine
You should not use Cortisone-10 if you are allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:
-
any type of skin infection;
-
a skin reaction to steroid medications;
-
cataract or glaucoma;
-
Thinning of the skin where you apply Cortisone-10;
-
problems with your adrenal gland; or
-
Liver disease.
Steroid medications can increase the levels of glucose (sugar) in your blood or urine. Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.
It is not known whether cortizone-10 will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Ask a doctor whether breast-feeding is safe while using this medication.
Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.
How should I use Cortizon-10?
Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Do not take orally. Topical medicines should only be used on the skin.
Wash your hands before and after using this medication unless you are using it to treat a hand condition.
Apply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected skin and rub gently. Do not apply this medicine to a large area of skin unless directed by your doctor.
Do not cover treated skin with a bandage unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Shake hydrocortisonelotionAndspraygood just before each use.
When treating the diaper area, do not use plastic pants or tight-fitting diapers.
Medical tests may be needed to make sure this medicine is not causing harmful effects.
Blood or urine tests may be needed while using this medication.
Stop using hydrocortisone and call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of using this medication, or if your symptoms worsen or improve and then return after a few days.
Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Store the foam canister away from open flames or strong heat. Do not puncture or burn an empty canister.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not apply two doses at the same time.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 if someone accidentally swallows the medicine.
High doses or long-term use of Cortisone-10 can cause thinning of the skin, easy bruising, changes in body fat (especially in the face, neck, back and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual cramps, impotence, etc. Loss of interest in sex.
What should I avoid when using hydrocortisone topically?
Do not use Cortisone-10 to treat any skin condition that has not been evaluated by your doctor.
Avoid using Cortisone-10 on the skin of your face, armpits, or groin unless directed by your doctor.
Avoid using other medications on the areas you are treating with Cortizone-10 unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Do not let cortisone-10 get into your eyes.In case of contact, rinse with water.
What other drugs affect Cortizone-10?
Medications applied to the skin are unlikely to be affected by other medications you are taking, but many medications can interact. Tell your doctor about all your current medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products.
