What is a Dupixent prefabricated pen?

Dupixent prefilled pen is also used with other medicines for the maintenance treatment of moderate to severe asthma in adults and children aged 6 years and over. This medicine is not a rescue medicine used to treat an asthma attack.

Dupixent pre-filled pen is used in adults with other medicines for the maintenance treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (long-term sinus infection) that cannot be controlled by other medicines.

Dupixent prefilled pen is also used to treat eosinophilic esophagitis in adults and children at least 1 year of age and weighing at least 33 pounds (15 kilograms).

Dupixent prefilled pen is also used to treat prurigo nodularis in adults.

The pre-filled pen is intended for use in adults and children aged 2 years and over. The pre-filled syringe is intended for use in adults and children aged at least 6 months.

Dupixent prefilled pen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Dupixent pre-filled pen side effects

If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction: Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.

The Dupixent prefilled pen can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • new or worsening asthma symptoms;

  • rapid pulse, swollen glands, itching, nausea or vomiting, stomach cramps;

  • Eye pain or changes in your vision, e.g. B. blurred vision;

  • new or worsening joint symptoms – joint pain, difficulty walking, loss of balance or coordination; or

  • Inflammation of blood vessels - fever, headache, new or worsening cough, numbness, difficulty breathing, night sweats, stomach pain, weight loss, rash, severe tingling, body or chest pain, feeling weak or tired.

Common side effects of the Dupixent prefilled pen may include:

  • pain, bruising, swelling, or irritation at the injection site of the drug;

  • high levels of a certain type of white blood cell (eosinophilia);

  • redness, swelling or irritation of your eyes or eyelids, blurred vision;

  • stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;

  • toothache;

  • dry eyes;

  • Dizziness, sleep disorders (insomnia);

  • Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat;

  • joint or muscle pain;

  • cold sores in or around the mouth and lips; or

  • Skin sores or blisters, itching, tingling, burning pain in the thigh or lower back.

Warnings

Use only as directed. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines or have any other medical conditions or allergies.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Dupixent pre-filled pen if you are allergic to it.

Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:

  • Asthma;

  • eye problems;

  • Infection by helminthic parasites; or

  • if you are scheduled to have a vaccination.

There may also be an increased risk of infection with parasites (helminths) while using the Dupixent prefilled pen. Talk to your doctor about what to look for and how to treat this condition.

Make sure you are up to date on all vaccinations before you start using Dupixent pre-filled pen.

Do not allow a small child to use the Dupixent pre-filled pen without the help of an adult.

It is not known whether the Dupixent pre-filled pen will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

If you are pregnant, your name may be listed in a pregnancy registry to track the effects of dupilumab on the baby.

Ask a doctor if it is safe to breastfeed while using Dupixent pre-filled pen.

How should I use the Dupixent ready-made pen?

Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

The Dupixent prefilled pen is usually injected under the skin in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm every 2 to 4 weeks. Your first dose may be given in two injections to give you the total dose.

A doctor can teach you how to properly use the medication yourself. Carefully read and follow all instructions for use that come with your medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand these instructions.

Do not prepare an injection until you are ready to give it. Keep the needle cap on until you are ready to inject your dose. Call your pharmacist if the medicine looks cloudy, has changed color, or contains particles.

Do not inject within 5 cm of your navel (belly button) or in areas where the skin is hard, tender, bruised, or scarred. Do not inject in the same place twice in a row.

The dosage depends on weight. Your dose may change if you gain or lose weight.

Throw away a pre-filled syringe or pen after a single use, even if it still contains medicine. Do not reuse a needle, syringe, or pen. Place them in a puncture-resistant sharps container and dispose of in accordance with state or local laws. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

If you are also taking a steroid medication, you should not suddenly stop using it. Follow your doctor's instructions for reducing the dose.

Frequent vision tests may be necessary.

Store this medicine in the original container in the refrigerator. Protect from light and do not freeze or shake the medicine.

Remove the medicine from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes before injecting your dose. Do not heat a syringe or pen with hot water, sunlight, or a microwave.

You can store this medicine at room temperature for up to 14 days. Throw away the medicine if not used within 14 days. Do not put it back in the refrigerator.

What happens if I miss a dose?

On a weekly schedule: Take the missed dose as soon as possible and start a new weekly schedule on the day you remember.

If you use the Dupixent pre-filled pen every two weeks: Use the medicine as soon as you remember and stick to your original schedule. However, if you are 7 days or more late in taking the dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time.

If you use the Dupixent pre-filled pen every 4 weeks: Use the medicine as soon as you remember and stick to your original schedule. However, start a new schedule every 4 weeks on the day you remember if you are 7 days or more late for your dose.

Do not use two doses at the same time.

What should I avoid when using the Dupixent pre-filled pen?

Avoid administering a live vaccine during treatment or immediately before starting treatment with the Dupixent prefilled pen. Live vaccines include measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), rotavirus, typhoid, yellow fever, varicella (chickenpox), and zoster (shingles).

What other medications affect Dupixent prefilled pen?

Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially:

  • an oral, inhaled, or topical steroid medication; or

  • any medicine used to treat asthma.
