Used for EZ disk

This medicine should only be administered by or under the direct supervision of a doctor.

Before using EZ-Disk

When deciding to use a diagnostic test, any risks associated with the test must be weighed against the benefits it provides. This is a decision that you and your doctor will make. Other things can also influence the test results. For this test the following should be taken into account:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had an unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your doctor if you have other allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives or animals. For over-the-counter products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatrics

Entero VU™ 24% oral suspension is not suitable for use in children.

Related studies conducted to date have not shown any pediatric problems that would limit the benefit of EZ-HD oral suspension in children 12 years of age or older. However, the safety and effectiveness of this medicine have not been established in children under 12 years of age.

Related studies conducted to date have shown no pediatric problems that would limit the benefit of Varibar® Pudding oral paste in children 6 months of age and older. However, the safety and effectiveness of this drug have not been established in children younger than 6 months.

geriatrics

Related studies conducted to date have not shown any geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of barium sulfate oral suspension or paste in the elderly. However, older patients are at higher risk of kidney, liver, or heart problems, which may require caution and dose adjustment in patients receiving this drug.

Drug interactions

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines can be used together, although interactions may occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your doctor if you are taking other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.

Interactions with food/tobacco/alcohol

Certain medicines should not be taken during or near food or consumption of certain foods because interactions may occur. Consuming alcohol or tobacco with certain medications can also lead to interactions. Discuss using your medicine with food, alcohol or tobacco with your doctor.

Proper use of EZ-Disk

A doctor or other trained health professional will give you or your child this medicine in a hospital. This medicine is administered orally. You will swallow the barium liquid or paste just before a CT scan or X-ray.

Your doctor may tell you not to eat or drink anything the night before the test. Barium works better when your stomach and intestines are empty.

It is important to drink plenty of fluids during and after the test. Barium sulfate can cause severe constipation.

Barium sulfate is also available as an enema and is administered through the rectum.

Precautions when using EZ-Disk

Your doctor will closely monitor you or your child's progress while you are receiving this medicine. This will help your doctor determine whether the medicine is working properly and decide whether you or your child should continue to receive it.

Serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication. Tell your doctor right away if you experience rash, itching, wheezing, difficulty breathing, lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting after taking this medication.

Do not take any other medicines unless you have discussed this with your doctor. This includes both prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medications and herbal or vitamin supplements.
