What is Klor-Con/EF?
Klor-Con/EF is used to treat or prevent potassium deficiency (hypokalemia).
Klor-Con/EF may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Side effects of Klor-Con/EF
If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction:hives; difficulty breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using Klor-Con/EF and call your doctor immediately if you have:
-
Confusion;
-
fast or irregular heartbeat;
-
a light-headed feeling, as if you were going to faint;
-
weakness or heaviness in the legs;
-
numbness or tingling in your hands or feet;
-
unusual tiredness;
-
difficulty breathing;
-
black, bloody, or tarry stools;
-
severe stomach pain or cramps; or
-
high potassium levels – nausea, weakness, tingling, chest pain, irregular heartbeat or loss of movement.
Common side effects of Klor-Con/EF may include:
-
nausea, vomiting;
-
Diarrhea; or
-
stomach pain.

Warnings
You should not use Klor-Con/EF if you are also taking a potassium-sparing diuretic such as amiloride, eplerenone, spironolactone, or triamterene.
Before you take this medicine
You should not use Klor-Con/EF if:

you have high levels of potassium in your blood; or
-
You also take a potassium-sparing diuretic such as amiloride, eplerenone, spironolactone, or triamterene.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist whether it is safe to use this medicine if you have ever had:
-
heart problems, irregular heartbeat;
-
Diabetes;
-
a serious burn injury;
-
an ulcer or other problems with your stomach or intestines;
-
Addison's disease (an adrenal disease);
-
an allergic reaction to a product containing potassium;
-
kidney disease; or
-
if you are dehydrated.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before using this medicine.
Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.
How should I take Klor-Con/EF?
Use exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor.
let fallEffervescent tabletPour into a glass with at least 110 ml of water. Allow the tablet to dissolve completely. Drink the liquid slowly over 5 to 10 minutes.
Take your doses at regular intervals to ensure a consistent amount of potassium in your body at all times.
Take Klor-Con/EF with meals or after a meal.
Frequent medical examinations may be required. Even if you don't have any symptoms, your doctor can use tests to determine whether Klor-Con/EF is effective.
You should not stop using Klor-Con/EF without asking your doctor first.
Store this medicine in the original packaging at room temperature and away from moisture and heat. Keep each tablet in the foil pouch until you are ready to use the medicine.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.
What happens if I overdose?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.
What should I avoid while taking Klor-Con/EF?
Avoid taking other potassium supplements, salt substitutes, or low-sodium foods unless directed by your doctor.
What other drugs will affect Klor-Con/EF?
Consult a doctor or pharmacist before using Klor-Con/EF with other medications, especially:
-
heart or blood pressure medications;
-
a diuretic or “water pill”; or
-
NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) – aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam and others.
