What is LidoRxKit?

LidoRxKit is used to treat mouth sores, to numb the gums during dental procedures, and to numb the mouth and throat before surgery or a medical procedure.

LidoRxKit should not be used to treat teething pain in infants.

LidoRxKit may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Side effects of LidoRxKit

If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction:hives; difficulty breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

LidoRxKit can cause serious side effects. Stop using LidoRxKit and call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • drowsiness, depression, confusion, nervousness or restlessness;

  • weakness, slow breathing, slow heartbeat;

  • a light-headed feeling, as if you were going to faint;

  • feeling numb or cold;

  • Vomit; or

  • blurred vision.

Common side effects of LidoRxKit may include:

  • unusual or unpleasant taste in the mouth; or

  • Numbness in areas where the medicine has been accidentally applied.

Do not use LidoRxKit to treat teething pain in a baby.In very young children, the use of this medicine may cause death.

Use the smallest amount of this medication needed to numb or relieve pain. Do not use large amounts of viscous lidocaine.

An overdose of numbing medication can cause fatal side effects if too much of the medication is absorbed through your gums and into your blood.

Before you take this medicine

Do not use LidoRxKit to treat teething pain in a baby.A baby could accidentally swallow this medicine if it gets into the mouth. Using this drug in very young children can cause heart problems, seizures, serious brain injury, and death.Always consult a doctor before using any medication to treat your baby's teething pain.

You should not use LidoRxKit if you are allergic to any anesthetic medicine.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • liver disease;

  • a serious heart condition such as “AV block”;

  • an allergy to medications; or

  • broken, swollen, or damaged skin or gum tissue.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before using this medicine.

Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine.

How should I use LidoRxKit?

Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

Improper use of viscous lidocaine can result in death.

Carefully read and follow all instructions for use that come with your medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand these instructions.

LidoRxKit can be applied with your fingertips, a cotton swab, or with the applicator that comes with the medicine.

Use the smallest amount of this medication needed to numb or relieve pain. Do not use large amounts of viscous lidocaine.

Avoid swallowing the medicine while applying it to your gums or the inside of your mouth.

Your body may absorb more LidoRxKit if:

  • You use too much;

  • They swallow the medicine;

  • You apply the medicine to cut or irritated gum tissue; or

  • You apply heat to a treated area.

Avoid eating within one hour of using this medicine in your mouth or throat. Children in particular may experience difficulty swallowing and risk of suffocation.

Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Because lidocaine is used topically as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 if someone accidentally swallows the medication.

An overdose of a numbing drug can cause fatal side effects if too much of the drug is absorbed through your gums and into your blood. Symptoms of overdose may include irregular heartbeat, seizures, slow breathing, coma, or apnea (stopped breathing).

When lidocaine is applied to the gums, an overdose is unlikely to occur unless you apply more than the recommended dose.

What should I avoid when using LidoRxKit?

Avoid eating, chewing gum, or drinking hot liquids until mouth feeling completely returns. Chewing with a numb mouth can cause bite injuries to your tongue, lips, or the inside of your cheek.

Do not let LidoRxKit come into contact with your eyes. If this is the case, rinse it off with water.

Avoid using other medications on the areas you are treating with LidoRxKit unless directed to do so by your doctor.

What other drugs will affect LidoRxKit?

LidoRxKit is unlikely to be affected by other medications you are taking. But many medications can interact with each other. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products.
