What is Lodoco?

Inflammation plays an important role in the formation of atherosclerotic plaques and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), a condition in which the arteries narrow and harden due to plaque formation, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes, as well as other cardiovascular events. Lodoco has anti-inflammatory effects to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by targeting the inflammatory pathways involved in major cardiac events.

Other brands of colchicine are used to treat various medical conditions.

Colcrys is FDA-approved for the prevention and treatment of acute gout attacks and for use in patients 4 years of age and older with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). Mitigare is FDA-approved to prevent gout attacks.

Warnings

Serious drug interactions can occur when certain medicines are used at the same time as Lodoco. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medications you are taking now and any medications you are starting or stopping taking.

Before taking Lodoco, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, heart disease, stomach ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, intestinal bleeding, or other serious gastrointestinal disease.

If you take Lodoco for a long time, you may need to have your blood checked regularly. Don't miss any scheduled appointments.

Call your doctor immediately if you experience serious side effects such as muscle pain or weakness, numbness or tingling in your fingers or toes, severe vomiting or diarrhea, easy bruising or bleeding, feeling weak or tired, flu symptoms, blood in your fingers or toes, urine, less frequent or no urination, or a pale or gray appearance to your lips, tongue, or hands.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Lodoco if you are allergic to colchicine.

Some medicines may cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with Lodoco, especially if you have liver or kidney disease. Your doctor may need to change your treatment plan if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • Cyclosporin;
  • Nefazodon;
  • Tipranavir;
  • Clarithromycin oder Telithromycin;
  • Itraconazol oder Ketoconazol; oder
  • HIV- oder AIDS-Medikamente – Atazanavir, Darunavir, Fosamprenavir, Indinavir, Lopinavir, Nelfinavir, Ritonavir oder Saquinavir.

To make sure Lodoco is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

  • Leber erkrankung;
  • Nierenerkrankung; oder
  • wenn Sie Digoxin oder cholesterinsenkende Medikamente einnehmen.

pregnancy

It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Lodoco can cause temporary fertility problems in men. This may affect your ability to father a child. Talk to your doctor if this is a problem for you.

Breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor if you are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed. Colchicine can pass into breast milk and may harm a breastfed baby. Talk to your doctor about the best way to feed your baby during treatment with Lodoco.

How should I take Lodoco?

Take Lodoco exactly as your doctor has told you. Follow all instructions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Lodoco is usually taken once daily and can be taken without regard to meals.

If you use this medicine for a long time, you may need frequent medical checks.

Dosage information

Lodoco is available as a 0.5 mg tablet.

The recommended dose is one tablet daily (0.5 mg).

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.A colchicine overdose can be fatal.

Symptoms of overdose may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, muscle weakness, little or no urination, numbness or tingling, weak pulse, slow heartbeat, weak or shallow breathing, or fainting.

What to avoid

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interact with colchicine and cause unwanted side effects. While taking it, avoid using grapefruit products.

Side effects of Lodoco

Get medical help right away if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Lodoco: hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • Muskelschmerzen oder -schwäche;
  • Taubheitsgefühl oder Kribbeln in Ihren Fingern oder Zehen;
  • blasses oder graues Aussehen Ihrer Lippen, Zunge oder Hände;
  • schweres oder anhaltendes Erbrechen oder Durchfall;
  • Fieber, Schüttelfrost, Gliederschmerzen, Grippesymptome; oder
  • leichte Blutergüsse, ungewöhnliche Blutungen, Schwäche- oder Müdigkeitsgefühl.

Common side effects of Lodoco may include:

  • Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Magenschmerzen; oder
  • Durchfall.

What other medications affect Lodoco?

Many medications can interact with Lodoco and some medications should not be used together. This includes prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal products.
