What is Max DHA?

Max DHA can also be used as a dietary supplement in combination with other vitamins in adults and children.

Max DHA may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Maximum DHA side effects

Max DHA can have serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • chest pain; or

  • uneven heartbeat.

Common side effects of Max DHA may include:

  • belching, changes in your sense of taste;

  • loss of appetite;

  • diarrhea, constipation, stomach upset;

  • back pain; or

  • dry mouth.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You can report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Warnings

Use only as directed and follow all label and packaging instructions. Tell any of your healthcare providers if you are taking any other medications or have any other medical conditions or allergies.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Max DHA if you are allergic to Max DHA, soy, fish or shellfish.

Before taking Max DHA, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any health problems.

Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:

  • Diabetes;

  • bleeding problems, anemia (low red blood cell count);

  • a cardiac arrhythmia;

  • a disease of the pancreas;

  • hypothyroidism; or

  • Liver disease.

It is not known whether Max DHA will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Ask a doctor if it is safe to breastfeed while using Max DHA.

Do not give herbal or nutritional supplements to a child without medical advice.

How should I take Max DHA?

Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed. Do not use more of this product than recommended on the label.

The recommended daily intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids changes with age. Follow your doctor's instructions. You can also find more information at the NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements or the USDA Nutrient Database for recommended daily allowances.

Over-counter (OTC) products should not be used as a substitute for medications prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other health care provider if it is safe to use this product.

Take with food.

Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, break, or open it.

You must chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it.

Measure liquid medications using the measuring device provided (not a kitchen spoon).

Your dosage needs may change if you change to a different brand, strength, or form of this medication. Avoid medication errors by using it exactly as directed on the label or as directed by your doctor.

Your treatment may also include diet, exercise, weight control, and blood tests.

Tell your doctor if you are scheduled to have surgery.

Store tightly closed at room temperature, protected from moisture, heat and light. Do not freeze.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

What should I avoid while taking Max DHA?

Follow your doctor's instructions regarding any food, drink, or activity restrictions.

Avoid using Max DHA with other herbal/health supplements that may also affect blood clotting. These include angelica (dong quai), pepper, clove, dandelion, danshen, evening primrose, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, horse chestnut, panax ginseng, poplar, red clover, saw palmetto, turmeric and willow.

What other drugs will affect Max DHA?

Do not take Max DHA without medical advice if you are taking any of the following medications:

  • Medicines to prevent blood clots – alteplase, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, ticlopidine and others; or

  • a blood thinner – warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven, apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran.

This list is not complete. Other medications can affect Max DHA, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible drug interactions are listed here.
