Side effects of mometasone and olopatadine in the nose

Mometasone and olopatadine nasal can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • nosebleeds;

  • nasal wounds;

  • runny nose;

  • crust formation in the nose;

  • panting;

  • white spots or sores in the nose that don't heal;

  • visibility problems; or

  • Signs of infection – fever, chills, sore throat, body aches, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, bruising or bleeding.

Steroid medications can affect children's growth. Tell your doctor if your child does not grow normally while using mometasone and olopatadine nasally.

Although the risk of serious side effects from using mometasone and olopatadine nasally in the nose is low, side effects may occur if the drug is absorbed into your bloodstream. Tell your doctor if you notice possible signs of long-term steroid use:

  • weight gain (particularly in the face or upper back and torso);

  • slow wound healing, thinning skin, increased body hair;

  • irregular menstruation, changes in sexual function; or

  • Muscle weakness, tiredness, depression, anxiety or irritability.

Common side effects of mometasone and olopatadine nasal may include:

  • altered sense of taste;

  • nosebleeds; or

  • Nasal problems.

Warnings

Use only as directed. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines or have any other medical conditions or allergies.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use mometasone and olopatadine nasal if you are allergic to them.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • nose jobs, nasal wounds or nasal injuries;

  • glaucoma or cataracts;

  • tuberculosis or other infections or diseases; or

  • if you are not feeling well or have symptoms that you do not understand.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How should I use mometasone and olopatadine nasally?

Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

The usual dose of mometasone and olopatadine is 2 sprays in each nostril twice daily. Follow your doctor's dosage instructions very carefully.

Do not spray mometasone and olopatadine into your nose or mouth. Mometasone and olopatadine nasal may only be used in the nose.

Shake thatNasal spraygood just before each use. Before first use, prepare the nasal spray pump by spraying the medicine into the air six times until a fine mist is created. If the nasal spray has not been used for more than 14 days, prepare it by spraying the medicine into the air twice until a fine mist is formed.

Visit your doctor regularly to check your symptoms and side effects when using mometasone and olopatadine nasal.

Throw away the medicine after you have used 240 sprays, even if there is still medicine left in the bottle.

Store mometasone and olopatadine nasal in an upright position at room temperature.

Nasal dosage information for mometasone and olopatadine

Usual Adult Dose for Allergic Rhinitis:

2 sprays in each nostril twice daily

Uses: To treat the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis

Usual Pediatric Dose for Allergic Rhinitis:

12 years or older: 2 sprays in each nostril twice daily

Uses: To treat the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis

What happens if I miss a dose?

Use the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not use two doses at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 if someone accidentally swallows the medicine.

Overdose of mometasone and nasal olopatadine is not expected to result in life-threatening symptoms. Long-term use of high doses may cause thinning of the skin, easy bruising, changes in body fat (particularly in the face, neck, back, and waist), increased acne or facial hair, menstrual problems, impotence, or loss of interest in sex.

Symptoms of an overdose of olopatadine nasal may include restlessness or agitation and then drowsiness.

What should I avoid when using mometasone and olopatadine nasally?

Avoid being near sick or infected people. Call your doctor for preventive treatment if you are exposed to chickenpox or measles. These conditions can be serious or even fatal in people taking steroid medications.

Avoid driving and dangerous activities until you know how this medicine affects you. Dizziness or drowsiness can lead to falls, accidents or serious injury.

Drinking alcohol with this medicine may cause side effects.

What other drugs will affect mometasone and olopatadine nasal?

Using mometasone and olopatadine nasal with other medications that make you sleepy may worsen this effect. Consult your doctor before taking opioid medications, sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, or anti-anxiety or seizure medications.

Sometimes it is not safe to take certain medications at the same time. Some medications can affect the blood levels of other medications you are taking, which may increase side effects or make the medications less effective.

Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially:

  • an antibiotic;

  • antifungal;

  • an antidepressant; or

  • antiviral medicine for the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
