What is Motegrity?

Motegrity is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic idiopathic constipation. Idiopathic remedies with no known cause.

It is not known whether prucalopride is safe and effective in children.

Warnings

You should not use Motegrity if you have an intestinal obstruction, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or intestinal perforation.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Motegrity if you are allergic to prucalopride or if you have:

  • a blockage in your intestines;

  • severe constipation;

  • inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis);

  • toxic megacolon; or

  • Perforation (a hole or tear) of your intestine.

To make sure Motegrity is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • kidney disease;

  • Depression;

  • a mood disorder; or

  • Suicidal thoughts.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Motegrity is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18.

How should I take Motegrity?

Take Motegrity exactly as your doctor has told you. Follow all instructions on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instructions for use.

You can take this medicine with or without food.

Store Motegrity in the original container at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Dosage information

Usual Adult Dose for Chronic Idiopathic Constipation:

2 mg orally once daily

Use: Treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC)

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the medicine as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

An overdose can cause severe diarrhea.

What to avoid

Follow your doctor's instructions regarding any food, drink, or activity restrictions.

Side effects of Motegrity

If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction to Motegrity:hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • unusual changes in mood or behavior;

  • persistent or worsening depression;

  • thoughts about suicide or self-harm; or

  • when you feel sad or hopeless.

Common side effects of Motegrity may include:

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;

  • stomach pain, bloating, flatulence;

  • Headache;

  • Dizziness; or

  • I feel tired.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You can report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

What other drugs affect Motegrity?

Other medications may interact with prucalopride, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell your doctor about all medications you are currently taking and any medications you are taking or stopping.
