What is Mouth Kote?

Mouth Kote is used to relieve dryness and pain or discomfort in the mouth or throat that may be caused by certain diseases, medications, surgery or chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Mouth Kote may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Before you take this medicine

You should not use Mouth Kote if you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the product packaging.

Before using Mouth Kote, consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How should I use Mouth Kote?

A saliva substitute is intended for use in the mouth only. Don't let it get in your eyes.

Use your saliva substitute product exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor.

Mouth Kote works in the mouth and is not intended to be swallowed.

To use mouthwash or other liquid Mouth Kote, swish a small amount in your mouth for 30 seconds and then spit it out.

The oral powder must be mixed with about 30 ml of water before use. Stir the mixture and use immediately, although you may need to stir two or three times to get the full amount. Do not save the mixture for later use.

Shake thatMouth spraySpray gently before each use and spray directly into the mouth and onto the tongue.

The tablet or lozenge can be kept in your mouth for long periods of time, including while you sleep. Some tablets are pressed onto your tooth or gum to hold them in place.

Saliva replacement gel, paste, or swabs can be applied directly to the gums, tongue, teeth, or sides of the mouth. Follow all instructions carefully.

How often you use a saliva substitute may depend on your condition or medication schedule.

In most cases, Mouth Kote are used three to five times daily or whenever your mouth feels dry and uncomfortable. If used during chemotherapy or radiation, you may need to use this medicine up to 10 times a day from or before the day of your treatment. Follow all dosage instructions carefully.

Do not allow a child to use Mouth Kote without adult supervision.

Mouth Kote may only be part of a complete treatment program that includes the use of other oral hygiene methods. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Store your saliva substitute as directed on the product label. Avoid moisture, heat and light.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Because Mouth Kote is used as needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of a saliva substitute is unlikely to be dangerous. If someone accidentally swallows large amounts of this product, seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

What should I avoid when taking Mouth Kote?

You may need to avoid eating or drinking for about 15 minutes after using Mouth Kote. Follow all instructions on the label of the product you use.

If the saliva substitute gets into your eyes, rinse with water.

What other drugs will affect Mouth Kote?

Other medicines you take orally or inject are unlikely to affect Mouth Kote if you take it by mouth and do not swallow it. But many medications can interact with each other. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products.
