What is Rescon-DM?

Rescon-DM is a combination medicine used to treat cough, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes caused by allergies, cold, or flu.

Rescon-DM does not treat coughs caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema.

Rescon-DM may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Side effects

If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

This medicine can cause serious side effects. Stop using this medicine and call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • severe anxiety, tremors, seizures (convulsions);

  • painful or difficult urination;

  • fast or pounding heartbeat; or

  • severe headache, throbbing in the neck or ears.

Common side effects of Rescon-DM may include:

  • dizziness, drowsiness;

  • blurred vision;

  • dry mouth, nose or throat;

  • increased or decreased urination;

  • nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea;

  • sleep problems (insomnia); or

  • Nervousness.

Warnings

Do not use this medicine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine in the last 14 days.

Before you take this medicine

Do not use Rescon-DM if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. Dangerous drug interactions could occur. MAOIs include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe to use this medicine if you have:

  • asthma or COPD, cough with mucus;

  • a blockage in your digestive tract (stomach or intestines);

  • high blood pressure, heart disease;

  • liver or kidney disease;

  • Glaucoma;

  • enlarged prostate or problems urinating;

  • Overactive thyroid; or

  • Pheochromocytoma (a tumor of the adrenal gland).

Liquid medicines may contain phenylalanine. Check the drug label if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before using this medicine.

How should I take Rescon-DM?

Use exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor. Cold or cough medicines are for short-term use only, until your symptoms have subsided.

Always follow the drug label instructions when giving cough or cold medication to a child.Do not use the medicine just to make a child sleepy.In very young children, misusing cough or cold medicines can cause death.

Measure liquid medicine carefully. Use the dosing syringe provided or a medication dosing device (not a kitchen spoon).

You must chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it.

Do not take more than 7 days in a row.Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days or if you have a fever, rash, or headache.

If you need surgery or medical tests, tell the surgeon or doctor in advance whether you have taken this medicine in the last few days.

Store at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Because Rescon-DM is used as needed, you may not need to follow a dosing schedule. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not use two doses at the same time.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222.

What should I avoid while taking Rescon-DM?

Drinking alcohol with this medicine may cause side effects.

Avoid driving and dangerous activities until you know how this medicine affects you. Your reactions may be affected.

Consult a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cough, cold, allergy, or sleep medication that may contain similar ingredients.

Avoid overheating or dehydration during exercise and in hot weather. This medicine may reduce sweating and may make you more susceptible to heat stroke.

What other drugs will affect Rescon-DM?

Avoid using this medication with other medications that cause drowsiness or slow your breathing (e.g., opioids, muscle relaxants, or anti-anxiety or seizure medications). Consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible drug interactions are listed in this medication guide.
