What is Rimso-50?

Side effects of Rimso-50
If necessary, get emergency medical helpSigns of an allergic reaction:hives; difficult breathing; Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Tell your healthcare provider if you experience severe discomfort or irritation when inserting the medicine or while holding it in your bladder. With repeated treatments this may become less noticeable over time.
While you are receiving Rimso-50, you may notice a garlic or onion taste in your mouth. This effect may last for several hours after taking the medicine and you may also notice these smells on your breath or skin. This is a normal side effect of dimethyl sulfoxide and is not a cause for concern.

Warnings
Follow all instructions on the label and packaging of your medicine. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies and any medications you take.
Before you take this medicine
You should not be treated with Rimso-50 if you are allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

bladder or kidney cancer; or
-
Visibility problems.
It is not known whether Rimso-50 will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
Breastfeeding may not be safe while using this medication. Ask your doctor about any risks.
How is Rimso-50 administered?
Rimso-50 is injected directly into the bladder using a catheter or syringe that is inserted into the urethra (the tube used to drain urine from your bladder). A healthcare provider will give you this medicine in a clinic.
After Rimso-50 is inserted into the bladder, you must allow the medicine to act for 15 minutes before emptying the bladder.
If you have a severe bladder infection, you may be given anesthesia to numb your pelvic area before being treated with Rimso-50.
Dimethyl sulfate is usually given every two weeks until your symptoms are relieved. Follow your doctor's dosage instructions very carefully.
Your doctor may also recommend that you take other medicines to treat pain or bladder spasms. Read the Medication Guide or Patient Instructions included with each of your medications.
Frequent blood and urine tests may be necessary.
Because Rimso-50 can affect your eyes, you may need to have eye exams before and during treatment.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your Rimso 50 treatment.
What happens if I overdose?
Because Rimso-50 is injected into the bladder rather than the bloodstream, an overdose is unlikely.
What should I avoid while taking Rimso-50?
Follow your doctor's instructions regarding any food, drink, or activity restrictions.
What other drugs affect Rimso-50?
It is unlikely that the use of Rimso-50 in the bladder will be affected by other medications you are taking. But many medications can interact with each other. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products.
