What is Supartz FX?

Supartz FX is used to treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis.

Supartz FX is usually given when other arthritis medications have not been effective.

Supartz FX may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Side effects of Supartz FX

Supartz FX can cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you have:

  • severe pain or swelling in the knee area after the injection.

Common side effects of Supartz FX may include:

  • warmth, pain, redness, stiffness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site of the drug;

  • nausea, stomach pain;

  • difficulty walking;

  • swelling of hands or feet;

  • back pain, joint pain, muscle pain;

  • numbness or tingling;

  • headache, dizziness; or

  • runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat.

Warnings

You should not receive Supartz FX if you have an infection in your knee or the skin around your knee.

Before you take this medicine

You should not receive Supartz FX if you are allergic to it or if you have an infection in your knee or the skin around your knee.

Supartz FX is not approved for use by anyone under the age of 21.

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • blood clots or poor circulation in your legs; or

  • an allergy to birds, feathers or egg products.

It is not known whether Supartz FX will harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.

It may not be safe to breast-feed a baby while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risks.

How is Supartz FX administered?

Supartz FX is injected directly into your knee joint. A doctor will give you this injection.

Supartz FX is usually administered once weekly for 3 to 5 weeks. Follow your doctor's dosage instructions very carefully.

To prevent pain and swelling, your doctor may recommend resting or applying ice to your knee for a short time after the injection.

Read all patient information, medication guides and instructions for use provided to you. If you have any questions, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsen.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your Supartz FX.

What happens if I overdose?

Because this medication is administered by a healthcare professional in a medical setting, overdose is unlikely.

What should I avoid after receiving Supartz FX?

Avoid jogging, strenuous activity, or strenuous sports such as soccer or tennis for at least 48 hours after the injection. Also avoid strenuous activity or standing for more than an hour at a time. Ask your doctor how long you should wait before resuming these activities.

What other drugs will affect Supartz FX?

Other medications can affect Supartz FX, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell your doctor about all medications you are currently taking and any medications you are taking or stopping.
