Syntest HS (oral)
Syntest HS (oral)
Syntest HS (Oral) Oral route (tablet)
Estrogens increase the risk of uterine cancer; Watch for abnormal vaginal bleeding. Estrogens with or without progestins should not be used to prevent cardiovascular disease or dementia. An increased risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, invasive breast cancer, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis has been reported in postmenopausal women (50 to 79 years of age). An increased risk of developing probable dementia in postmenopausal women aged 65 years and over has also been reported. This product contains an estrogen and an androgen, no progestin. This combination should not be used during a known or suspected pregnancy.
Use for Syntest HS
Esterified estrogens are an artificial mixture of estrogens. Estrogen is a hormone that the body produces in larger quantities in women. It is necessary for the normal sexual development of women and for the regulation of the menstrual cycle in childbearing years. Methyltestosterone is an artificial form of testosterone, a hormone that the body produces in larger amounts in men and in small amounts in women. Menopausal symptoms occur when the hormonal balance in the female body changes. This combination of hormones relieves menopause symptoms by providing more hormones to the body.
This medicine is only available with a doctor's prescription.
Before using Syntest HS
When deciding whether to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the benefits it produces. This is a decision that you and your doctor will make. The following should be noted with this medicine:
Allergies
Tell your doctor if you have ever had an unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your doctor if you have other allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives or animals. For over-the-counter products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
Pediatrics
The use of a combination of esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone is not recommended in children.
geriatrics
Studies conducted to date have not shown any geriatric-specific problems that would limit the benefit of the combination of esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone in the elderly. However, older patients are at higher risk of developing dementia and age-related kidney, liver, or heart problems, which may require caution and dose adjustment in patients receiving this drug.
Breastfeeding
There are insufficient studies in women to determine the risk to infants when using this drug while breast-feeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

It is very important that your doctor checks your progress at regular visits to make sure the medicine is working properly and to decide whether you should continue taking it. These visits should occur every 6 to 12 months or as otherwise directed by your doctor.
A woman is unlikely to become pregnant after menopause. However, you should know that taking this medicine during pregnancy may harm your unborn baby. If you think you have become pregnant while using this medicine, tell your doctor immediately.

Using high doses of estrogen alone for long periods of time may increase the risk of certain cancers (e.g., endometrial cancer). Talk to your doctor about this risk. If you have vaginal bleeding while taking this medication, call your doctor immediately.
This medicine may increase the risk of developing breast cancer. It is very important to check your breasts regularly for any unusual lumps or discharge and to have a breast x-ray every year as directed by your doctor. These tests are very important if you have a family member who has breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about this risk.
This medicine may increase the risk of dementia in older women (over 65 years of age). Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about this.
Contact your doctor immediately if blurred vision, difficulty reading, or other vision problems occur during or after treatment. Your doctor may want you to have your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist.
Taking high doses of methyltestosterone over a long period of time may increase the risk of serious liver problems (such as peliosis hepatis or liver cancer). Talk to your doctor about this risk.
Before you have a medical examination, tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine. The results of some tests may be affected by this medicine. You may also need to stop taking this medicine for a few weeks before and after surgery or if you are inactive for a long period of time.
