What is multivitamin with fluoride?

Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and thus prevents tooth decay. Most major U.S. communities add fluoride to the water supply.

Trivitamin with fluoride is used as a nutritional supplement for infants and children who do not receive enough fluoride through drinking water. Trivitamin with fluoride is also used to prevent tooth decay in radiation patients, which can lead to dry mouth and increased risk of tooth decay.

Multivitamins with fluoride side effects

When taken as directed, no serious side effects are to be expected from multivitamin preparations.

Fluoride can cause discoloration of tooth enamel. This is a rare side effect that occurs primarily with high doses or long-term use of multivitamin preparations with fluoride. Stop using Tri-Vitamin with Fluoride and call your dentist or doctor immediately if you notice any change in the appearance of your teeth.

Common side effects of trivitamin with fluoride may include:

  • abdominal pain;

  • Headache; or

  • Weakness.

Do not use this medicine without the advice of a doctor. You should not use Tri-Vitamin with Fluoride if the level of fluoride in your drinking water is sufficient (0.6 parts per million or more). Contact your local water authority if you are unsure about fluoride levels in drinking water.

Consuming too much fluoride can cause an irreversible condition that can permanently damage teeth and possibly other cells in the body.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.An overdose of certain vitamins or minerals contained in a multivitamin can cause serious or life-threatening side effects.

Before you take this medicine

Do not use Tri-Vitamin with Fluoride without the advice of a doctor. Trivitamin with fluoride should not be used if the fluoride level in drinking water is sufficient (0.6 parts per million or more). Check with your local water authority if you are unsure about fluoride levels in drinking water.

Your vitamin and mineral needs may vary during pregnancy. It is not known whether fluoride will harm an unborn child.If you are pregnant, do not use this medicine without medical advice.

Your dosage requirements may also vary while you are breastfeeding.Do not use this medicine without medical advice if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How should I take trivitamin with fluoride?

Use exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller quantities or for longer than recommended. Consuming too much fluoride can lead to an irreversible condition called fluorosis. This condition can cause permanent damage to teeth and possibly other cells in the body.

The chewable tablet must be chewed or allowed to dissolve in the mouth before swallowing. You can also let the tablet dissolve in drinking water, fruit juice or baby food (but not in milk or other dairy products).

Don't give oneChewable tabletto a child under 4 years old. The child could choke on the tablet. Use only liquid forms of this medication in young children.

Measure the liquid form of multivitamins with fluoride using the dosage syringe provided or with a special measuring spoon or medication cup. If you don't have a dose measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.

The liquid can also be mixed with water, fruit juice or baby formula.

To achieve maximum benefit, it is important to take trivitamin with fluoride regularly.

Make sure that a child taking this medicine does not ingest additional amounts of fluoride by swallowing toothpaste or drinking water from sources that contain sufficient amounts of fluoride.

Brush your teeth regularly, at least twice a day or after meals. This helps prevent tooth discoloration.

Many multivitamin products also contain minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and zinc. Minerals (especially taken in large doses) can cause side effects such as tooth discoloration, increased urination, stomach bleeding, uneven heart rate, confusion, and muscle weakness or a feeling of weakness. Read the label of any multivitamin product you take to make sure you know what it contains.

Store in the original container at room temperature, protected from moisture and heat. Do not let the liquid freeze.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222, especially if a child accidentally swallows trivitamin with fluoride.

An overdose of vitamins A, D, E, or K can cause serious or life-threatening side effects. Iron and other minerals contained in a multivitamin can also cause severe overdose symptoms.

Symptoms of overdose may include severe stomach pain, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, coughing up blood, constipation, loss of appetite, hair loss, peeling skin, warmth or tingling, menstrual changes, weight loss, severe headache, muscle or joint pain, severe back pain, blood in the urine or stool, black and tarry stools, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, Weakness, shallow breathing, weak and rapid pulse, pale skin, blue lips and seizures.

What should I avoid when taking trivitamin with fluoride?

Avoid taking other multivitamin products within 2 hours before or after taking trivitamin with fluoride. Taking similar vitamin supplements at the same time can result in a vitamin overdose or serious side effects.

Also, avoid taking an antibiotic within 2 hours before or after taking trivitamin with fluoride. This is especially important if you are taking an antibiotic.

Do not take this medicine with milk, other dairy products, calcium supplements, or antacids that contain calcium. Calcium can make it harder for your body to absorb certain ingredients in the multivitamin.

What other drugs will affect Trivitamin with Fluoride?

Other medications may interact with multivitamins containing fluoride, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all medications you are taking now and any medications you are starting or stopping taking.
