Uses for Trumenba

The meningococcal vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent infections caused by certain groups of meningococcal bacteria (Neisseria meningitides). The vaccine causes your body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the disease.

Bexsero® and Trumenba® only work against group B meningococcal bacteria.

Meningococcal infection can cause life-threatening diseases such as meningococcal meningitis, which affects the brain, and meningococcal infection, which affects the blood. Some people with meningococcal meningitis and/or meningococcemia may also die. These diseases are more common in young children and in people with certain diseases or conditions that make them more susceptible to meningococcal infection or increase the likelihood that they will develop serious problems due to meningococcal infection.

Vaccination against meningococcal disease is recommended for people who are at risk of developing the disease because:

Menomune® is recommended for use in patients 2 years of age and older.

Bexsero® and Trumenba® are recommended for use in patients aged 10 to 25 years. .

This vaccine should only be given by or under the supervision of your doctor.
