Proper use of Urex
Before you start taking this medicine, check your urine with phenaphthazine paper or another test to see if it is acidic. For this medicine to work properly, your urine must be acidic (pH 5.5 or lower). If you have any questions about this, contact your doctor.
The following changes in your diet may help your urine become more acidic. However, if you are on a special diet (e.g. because of diabetes), consult your doctor first. Avoid most fruits (especially citrus fruits and juices), milk and other dairy products, and other foods that make urine less acidic. Also, avoid antacids unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Eating more protein and foods like cranberries (especially cranberry juice with added vitamin C), prunes, or prunes can also help. If your urine is still not acidic enough, contact your doctor.
