Before using Westcort

Allergies

Pediatrics

No appropriate studies have been conducted on the relationship between age and the effects of topical hydrocortisone valerate in children and adolescents. However, due to the toxicity of this drug, it should be used with caution. Children and adolescents who need to use this medicine should be checked frequently by their doctor because topical hydrocortisone valerate can be absorbed through the skin and affect growth or cause other undesirable effects. Safety and effectiveness have not been established.

geriatrics

Related studies conducted to date have not shown any geriatric-specific problems that would limit the benefit of topical hydrocortisone valerate in the elderly.

Breastfeeding

There are insufficient studies in women to determine the risk to infants when using this drug while breast-feeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Drug interactions

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines can be used together, although interactions may occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose or other precautions may be necessary. Interactions with food/tobacco/alcohol

Correct use of Westcort

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not use it for other medical conditions without first consulting your doctor. This medicine can cause unwanted effects if used in excess because more of it is absorbed into the body through the skin.

Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medication.

Be very careful not to get this medicine in your eyes. Wash your hands after applying the medicine with your finger. If this medicine accidentally gets into your eyes, rinse them with water.

Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the affected area of ​​skin. Rub it in gently.

Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, do not use this medication on open wounds, burns, or broken or inflamed skin.

This medicine should only be used for problems that are being treated by your doctor. Consult your doctor before using it for other problems, especially if you suspect an infection is present. This medicine should not be used to treat certain types of skin infections or serious problems such as: B. severe burns.

Do not bandage or wrap the skin to be treated unless directed to do so by your doctor.

If your doctor has ordered an occlusive dressing (airtight covering, such as kitchen wrap or a special plaster) to be placed over this medicine, make sure you know how to apply it. Because occlusive dressings increase the amount of medication absorbed through the skin and increase the possibility of side effects, use them only as directed. Do not use this medicine on the face, groin, or under the arms unless your doctor directs you to do so.

Missed dose

Precautions when using Westcort

If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or worsen, contact your doctor.

After applying this medicine to your child's skin, watch the child carefully to make sure no medicine gets in the eyes or mouth. This medicine can cause serious side effects, especially in children, if it gets into the mouth and is swallowed.

Taking too much of this medicine or using it for a long time may increase your risk of adrenal gland problems. The risk is greater for children and for patients who take large amounts over a long period of time. Talk to your doctor if you or your child experience more than one of these symptoms while using this medicine: blurred vision; dizziness or fainting; fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat; increased thirst or urination; Irritability; or unusual tiredness or weakness.

Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you or your child develops a rash, burning, stinging, swelling, or irritation of the skin.

Avoid using tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants on a child if this medicine is used in the child's diaper area. Plastic pants and tight-fitting diapers can increase the absorption of the drug through the skin and the risk of side effects.

Do not use cosmetics or other skin care products on the treated skin areas.

Side effects of Westcort

In addition to the necessary effects, a medicine may also have some undesirable effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, medical attention may be required if they occur.
