Hair Loss in Women: A Natural, Affordable Cure?
The most common form of hair loss in men and women is DHT-related; DHT is a hormone that, simply put, weakens the hair follicles on your scalp (ironically not on the rest of your body) due to their specific "receptors" that are present in all areas where hair loss occurs (such as the top of your head for example). This causes your hair to fall out and your hair follicles to become progressively weaker. Over time, these become dormant or completely inactive.
Losing your hair in this way has been commonly referred to as androgenic (or andro-genetic) alopecia and is the most common form of hair loss, affecting the majority of men and women today. This is therefore the type of hair loss that this article refers to.
There are reportedly many “solutions” to this problem, some more effective than others. However, if you are a woman of childbearing age (premenopausal), your options do not include effective DHT blockers like Propecia. However, they have other options that are not available to men. One of these is topical progesterone (at least 2 percent with a doctor's prescription).
But what are the options if you want to avoid traditional drugs and prefer a natural approach?
Some would say that taking Saw Palmetto helps as it is said to be an alternative to Propecia. Every other natural alternative to cure hair loss contains Saw Palmetto as an active ingredient. In theory, it should work the same as Propecia. However, I didn't find it particularly useful in my case, and my scalp tended to get "irritated" both topically and in tablet form. In summary, Saw Palmetto works for some people, but it didn't work for me. If you're like me, you may feel frustrated, but don't despair: you have other options.
Women have another natural option to traditional treatments when they experience hair loss, especially women whose scalp problem is due to hormones (which is a large number):
the ability to regulate hormonal imbalances at the internal level; This is usually achieved by taking high amounts of Agnus Castus (sometimes sold as “Vitex”) and, if you prefer a homeopathic remedy, Folliculinum (with or without estrogen).
Simply put, Agnus Castus is a hormone regulator that affects the pituitary gland. This benefit can be achieved by lowering your prolactin levels (patients with hyperprolactinemia who tend to suffer from chronic hair loss) or by balancing your estrogen-progesterone ratio, which also affects hair loss and some other skin problems (hormonally triggered acne, for example).
